GUIDELINES FOR SUMMER INTERNSHIP - 2019

Dear Students,

Greetings from CCR!

We have pleasure in sharing with you the broad guidelines for the Summer Internship Project 2019
that you would be undertaking during April to June 2019. In the meanwhile please study the
guidelines and check with us for any clarification.

1. OBJECTIVE OF SUMMER INTERNSHIP

Internships are important to enhancing credentials, testing new situations and positioning MBAs for
the next step. With persistence, passion and creativity, a summer internship is within reach.
Summer internship offers important opportunity to work closely with professionals in your field and
to develop knowledge, competencies, and experience related directly to your career goals.

Recruiters attach great significance to the Summer Internship Project Report in the final placement
interview and in depth questions on it can be expected. Hence, the Project Report should be
perceived as an important course, which signals a student’s potential to the recruiters. BIMTECH
expects every student to take this activity very seriously and turn in an excellent deliverables at the
end of his/her internship in terms of a project report / credentials, knowledge and competencies &
experience.

2. DURATION:

The duration of the summer training project for all streams (PGDM, IB, IBM and RM) will be for three
months between 8th April (Monday) to 30th June (Sunday) 2019. CCR office reserves the rights to
evaluate on merit basis under circumstances where corporates are offering internship for a period of
less than 12 weeks.

 Internship for less than 10 weeks has to be supplemented with a minimum of 2 weeks STP
 Internship for less than 12 weeks – reason should be specified (why?)
 Proper justification for evaluation on 9 credits should be submitted to CCR office in case of not
fulfilling the 12 weeks Summer Internship criteria.

3. SUMMER INTERNSHIP WORKSHOP:

An interactive workshop of one day [on 16th / 17th March, 2019 (PGDM, PGDM-IB, PGDM-IBM and
PGDM-RM] will be held in the campus to give detailed guidelines and a roadmap to students on the
nitty gritty of summer projects, the do’s and dont’s etc. Students will also have occasion to interact
with their immediate seniors in this workshop; they will be told as to what is expected of them during
their internship, the needs of the Industry, working etiquettes and problems faced during internship
period etc. A soft copy of the Summer Internship Manual giving detailed guidelines on SIP will also
be shared before the workshop. Students are advised to follow the instructions /guidelines in the
manual closely.

ATTENDANCE WILL BE COMPULSORY IN ALL THE SESSIONS OF THE WORKSHOP. PLEASE NOTE THAT
THOSE FOUND ABSENT WILL FACE A PENALTY OF DEDUCTION OF 5 MARKS PER SESSION FROM THE
TOTAL SIP MARKS.
4. ACADEMIC GUIDE - ALLOCATION, REPORTING & SUPERVISION:
Prior to finalization of a faculty as the academic mentor, students should submit an application to the
faculty they would like to choose as a mentor, as to the proposed area of research, intent and
objective of the summer project. The academic mentor would give approval for being the mentor if
he/she is satisfied with the student’s submission after assessing the potential learning opportunity
and commitment of the student. Students should give their applications well in time so that the
mentor has adequate opportunity to go through it. Acceptance of the academic mentor should be
submitted to CCR on or before 31st March 2019.

Students are free to choose any faculty from the domain area of the project from amongst the
BIMTECH faculty as their academic guide/mentor.

Not more than 12 students can register under any one faculty as a mentor for summer internship.
The basis of selection will be ‘first come, first served’ basis. Students can check the list of available
faculty in the Google Sheet shared by CCR updating the number of vacant seats under each faculty
on daily basis.

The internee shall arrange for a telephonic conversation between the industry mentor and the
academic mentor before finalization of the project topic / title of the project. The concurrence of the
both mentors is a must.

The internee shall submit a fortnightly report on the progress of work relating to internship to the
academic mentor, failing which the academic mentor can deduct marks for not meeting the
timelines.

The academic mentor would be making at least one visit to the workplace of the student for a
meeting with the industry mentor to review the progress made by the student and also to build a
long term relationship between BIMTECH and the company/organisation.

Note: Students are advised to access BIMTECH’s Knowledge Portal (see website) for guidance on
model Summer Project Reports. The BIMTECH Knowledge Portal has copies of past Internship reports
of students which can also be accessed for reference purposes.
