Reflection

1. What were your expectations when you first started to work on the paper, on the product ,
and with your mentor? Did your experiences meet those expectations? How did they
differ?
➔ Initially, I thought this task would be the hardest thing I would do in my four years of
high school. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to do a good job and put a really good
effort. I was scared to do an 8-10 page paper, the most I’ve ever done was 5. As for my
mentor, I was actually happy with her because I knew she had a great number of
information and suggestion. When I finished my project I looked back and thought, “I
was stressed for nothing.” Without Mrs.Sebik there I wouldn’t have been able to finish
the things that I did and she helped us with that. She put time due dates to everything and
even understood if I couldn’t make an assignment on time.

2. What problems did you encounter while researching and writing the paper? What was
your greatest resource in overcoming these obstacles?
➔ One big problem that I had was finding resources to use while researching. I did not find
a lot of information online to help with my research. Another problem that I had was that
I had to balance my school work with senior project, sometimes I had to sacrifice other
school work like memorizing my Quran homework to try and turn in my senior project
assignments on time. One of the greatest resources I had was the WCC database to find
resources that helped me, I also went to many different libraries to find a few books, and
lastly, I started to split my time and tried to work on my senior project before anything
was due for my other classes.

3. What was the most interesting or surprising information you learned in your research?
➔ One interesting piece of information that I learned was that type 2 diabetes was referred
to adult-onset diabetes, but they changed because of the change in society today and how
it can happen to children and adults.

4. What did you learn about yourself during this project? How will you use what you
learned throughout the rest of your life, academic or not?
➔ I figured out that I don’t want to change my career because of my affection for children. I
realized that taking care of the youth will always be on my mind and I always want to
care for them as I get older. InshAllah if I pursue my career in the pediatric field I will
always try my best and make a lasting impact.

5. What did the project teach you about the holistic view Islam has for every aspect of our
life?
➔ Allah made everything for a reason, He made diseases, He made a cure, He provides
everything, and He gives and takes what He wants. I learned that if Allah gives you
something you should be thankful and if he doesn’t give you what you should still be
thankful because it is what is written on your destiny.
6. What would you do differently now that you have finished?
➔ The biggest thing that I would have done was start earlier in the summer instead of
leaving to start at the beginning of the year. It would have saved me more time to do
other things.

7. What advice would you give to next year’s seniors about how to achieve success on the
senior project?
➔ START EARLY!DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! I would also tell them not to take this
class as an easy class because it is a class you have to work hard and put a lot of effort to
complete it. One last thing I would give them it to make sure to turn in the assignments
on time because if they don’t they will add more stress to themselves on top of their other
work.

8. What grade would you give yourself for the project? Give your justifications.
➔ I would give myself an A because I put my time and effort to make my project complete
and turn into a success. I sacrificed somethings but in the end, everything came together.
It made me work hard, it made me learn new things, and it made me change my
perspective on how I look at a few things
