ACI 318/PCA Notes Software License Agreement

By installing, copying or otherwise using the ACI 318/PCA Notes software product you
agree to be bound by all the terms of this license agreement.
Grant of License: The American Concrete Institute (ACI) grants you a nonexclusive, non-
transferable license to use the ACI 318/PCA Notes system according to the terms and con-
ditions herein. The software may be used only on computers owned, leased, or otherwise
controlled by you. Neither concurrent use on two or more computers, nor use in a local
area network or other network is permitted without separate authorization and the payment
of other license fees.
The software may not be modified, translated or reverse engineered. The original software
delivered hereunder, and any copies made by you remain the property of ACI. Your license
- whether purchased by a private company or purchased under federal contract - may not
be assigned, sublicensed or otherwise transferred, and the CD-ROM disks may not be dis-
tributed to parties who do not have a paid license. ACI may terminate this license if you are
in default of any terms or conditions hereof.
Disclaimer of Warranty: ACI makes no warranty of representation either expressed or
implied, with respect to this software or its content, quality, performance, merchantability,
or fitness for a particular purpose and under no circumstances does ACI warrant that the
product will operate uninterrupted or error free.You, the licensee, are assuming the entire
risk as to its content, quality, and performance.
In no event will ACI be liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental or consequential
damages resulting from any defect in or use of the software. ACI will not be liable for any
programs or data stored or used with this product, including the costs of recovering said
programs or data.
This disclaimer and warrant and the remedy for physical defects in the software set forth
below are exclusive and in lieu of all others, oral or written, expressed or implied. No ACI
agent or employee is authorized to make any modification, extension, or addition to this
warranty.
If any physical defects are found in the product, under normal use, during the first ninety
(90) days after delivery, your sole remedy is replacement of the defective item without
charge.
Copyrights: The compilation of information included on this product is copyrighted by ACI
and the Portland Cement Association (PCA). The software and indexes of information
residing on this product are original works of authorship created by ACI and PCA and are
fully subject to the copyright ownership rights of ACI and PCA under copyright laws of the
United States. Certain other software residing on this product are subject to the copyright
ownership of other organizations.You may not delete or alter in any manner the copyright
notices appearing on or in conjunction with the software, packaging, or documents residing
on this product.

Third Party Beneficiaries: You are hereby notified that persons and entities which have
software included on the product are third party beneficiaries to this agreement as it
applies to their respective software products included with this product.

Prevailing Agreement: In the event of any conflict between the terms and conditions of
this agreement and the terms and conditions of any license agreements appearing with or
in the software products comprising the software, this agreement shall prevail.
Export: You agree that you will not export or re-export the software without the appropriate
United States or foreign government licenses.

U.S. Government Restricted Rights: If the products are acquired under the terms of a
proposal or agreement with the U.S. Government or any contractor therefor, the products
are subject to the following: (a) For acquisition by or on behalf of civilian agencies, as nec-
essary to obtain protection as “commercial computer software” and related documentation
in accordance with the terms of this commercial software agreement as specified in 48
C.F.R. 12.212 of the Federal Acquisition Regulations and its successors; (b) For acquisi-
tion by or on behalf of units of the Department of Defense (DOD) as necessary to obtain
protection as “commercial computer software” and related documentation in accordance
with the terms of this commercial computer software license as specified in 48 C.F. R. 227-
7202 of the DODF.A.R. Supplement and its successors.
System Requirements
• x86-based personal computer (586 minimum)
• Microsoft Windows XP, ME, 2000, 98, NT 4.0
• 64 MB application RAM
• 5 MB hard disk space, plus 7 MB additional temporary disk
space available during installation
• For best viewing results, a color SVGA monitor running
at 800× 600 resolution (minimum) is recommended.

Adobe Acrobat Reader-Search


The ACI 318/PCA Notes electronic document requires the Adobe Acrobat
Reader program. You will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader
installed on your computer.
If you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your
machine, it is not necessary to re-install it.

The Adobe Acrobat Reader-Search v5 program is provided on the


ACI 318/PCA Notes CD-Rom.
Installing ACI 318/PCA Notes:

INSERT the CD-Rom into your CD-Rom drive.


From the Start menu, SELECT Run... (The Run window will open)
In the Run window, delete any previous filename in the Open... filename box,
then SELECT the Browse... button. (The Browse window will open)
SELECT the drive letter of your CD-Rom (usually Drive E:).
CLICK on the “e:\” folder.
SELECT Setup.exe When the Run window reappears, CLICK the OK button.
The ACI 318/PCA Notes installer will appear and will guide you through the
installation process. At the end of the installation, the ACI 318/PCA Notes
window will appear and a ACI 318/PCA Notes icon will be dispayed in the win-
dow. (Clicking on the ACI 318/PCA Notes icon now will open ACI 318/PCA
Notes.)

Starting ACI 318/PCA Notes


SELECT Progams > ACI > ACI 318 & PCA Notes

• Adobe Acrobat Reader will start and the main menu file will appear

available in the help menu. From the menu bar,

Navigating the Main Menu Screen
Listed on the main menu screen are the TITLES of documents available on the
CD-ROM as well as a SEARCH selection. These are the MENU CHOICES.

The cursor will appear as a HAND icon. As the cursor is moved across the main
menu choices, the hand icon changes to a POINTING FINGER when the hand is
on one of the menu choices.

To OPEN a document, CLICK on a TITLE on the main menu while the hand is
pointing to it. To SEARCH through all available documents for a particular word
or phrase, CLICK the “Search” menu choice while the hand is pointing to it.

Navigating through Documents


When you select a document from the menu, a SPLIT SCREEN will appear.
Listed on the LEFT SIDE of the screen are BOOKMARKS. The RIGHT SIDE of
the screen contains the TEXT of the document. Selecting a Bookmark in the left
screen will advance the text in the right screen to the specified chapter or
subsection of the open document. For example, if you select the CONTENTS
bookmark, you will be taken to the current document’s table of contents. The
MAIN MENU bookmark will return you to the original menu screen.

You will notice as you move through the documents that some of the text
appears in RED or BLUE on your screen. These red and blue highlighted words
are called LINKS — clicking on one of these links with your mouse
will take you to whatever item the link refers. RED LINKS refer to items within the
document (such as tables or figures). BLUE LINKS refer to items within other
documents on the CD-ROM.

Acrobat Reader screen navigation tools
To go to the Next Page: Click the Next Page button on the toolbar
or Press the Right Arrow or the Down Arrow key
To return to the Previous Page: Click the Previous Page button on the toolbar
or Press the Left Arrow or the Up Arrow key
To go to the First Page: Click the First Page button on the toolbar
or Press the Home key
To go to the Last Page: Click the Last Page button on the toolbar
or Press the End key
To return to the Previous Screen: Click the Go Back button on the toolbar
or Click the Go Forward button on the toolbar

Printing documents
To print all or part of a document from the menu bar, select File, Print.... From the print dialog box,
you can select all pages, the current page, or a specified range of pages to print.
Remember that all documents contained in the 318 CD are copyrighted material of ACI
International and PCA. The documents may not be printed for other than personal use
without the express consent of ACI International. Contact ACI for information on right-to-reprint
if you have any questions.

Copying and pasting text and graphics


You can select text or a graphic in an open MCP document, copy it to the Clipboard, and paste it
into a document in another application such as a word processor.

Text
To select text, click on the Text Selection Tool abc and drag the cursor across the desired text.
You can also use your Shift key and the Arrow keys to select text. To select a column of text at a
time, hold down the CTRL key while dragging the mouse. To copy the selected text, use the Edit,
Copy pull-down menu to copy the text to the Clipboard.
Graphics
To copy graphics to the Clipboard, click on the Graphics Select Tool .
The cursor changes to the crosshair icon. Drag a rectangle around the graphic to select it.
When you release the mouse button, the selected graphic is highlighted. (To deselect the graphic
and start over, click anywhere outside the selected graphic.) Then choose Edit > Copy to copy the
selected graphic to the Clipboard. To view the graphic, choose Window > Show Clipboard.
Articles:
As you move your mouse pointer through the text of your document, you will
notice that the hand pointer may have a black arrow inside it. This indicates that
the text is formatted as an ARTICLE. Articles allow you to view and move more
easily through chapters in the documents. Clicking your mouse while the
Hand/Arrow is on the text will cause the program to zoom in on that column of
text. Every time you click with your mouse button, the system will scroll the next
screenful of text onto your screen. Articles are the ideal way for you to view these
documents as the system will automatically adjust the size and presentation of
the text for the best viewing on your system.

Searching Documents
FIND—Searches the text of thcurrent document for any word or phrase.

CLICK the Find button on the toolbar. The Find dialog box will appear.
TYPE in the word or phrase to be found and PRESS Enter. (See NOTE below).
The Find dialog box will disappear and the screen will display the first occurance
of the searched for word/phrase. This text will be highlighted in the document.
To find the next occurrence of the word/phrase, CLICK the Find button to open
the Find dialog box and CLICK the Find Again button.
