Chris,
Per Allan Thomas, following are the current district commissioners, the number of years remaining in their terms,
and the total term that they are serving:
Allan Thomas 3 years left in a 4-year term
Bob Anderson 2 years left in a 3-year term
Jay Freedman 1 year left in a 2-year term
District 5 does have the required number of commissioners, but I am not sure that the law was followed regarding
notice of filing for elections. Allan said that he posted openings for commissioners and there hasn’t been any
interest. I didn’t ask him what he meant by posting, but according to state law it should have been either publishing
a notice in the paper or a mailing to all qualified voters within the district. Also, Allan indicated that Jay Freedman
doesn’t want to continue as commissioner and his position is the next one up for election according to Allan.
Although Allan says there has not been much interest in commissioner positions, I think that District 5/5A covers
enough area within the City according to the attached map that there ought to be someone from the City who would
be interested in filing for the position. Of the current commissioners, we know that Allan resides in the City.
According to QwestDex, there are Robert Andersons in the Alzheimer’s unit at 2454 Cole St and at 309 Rainier
Ave, both of which lies in the City and district 5A/5. There is no listing for Jay Freedman.
I copied you on a separate e-mail to Julie Wise with King County elections where I questioned why KC has no
records of district elections when my reading of the law indicates they should. I’ll let you know KC Elections
response to my e-mail.
