Music Lesson planning – Kit demo class

1. A cappella singing trial

Goal a. Develop the ability of singing


b. Sense of harmony
c. Beatbox skills
Activity 1. Pick a song and sing with student
2. Sing the harmony part (1 or 2 parts depending on time and levels)
3. Divide students into 2 groups and sing together
4. Beatbox introduction
5. Put beatbox into the song
Time 30 mins
Material Choice of song

Details:

1. Practice solfege: d r m f s l t d (2 mins)

2. Start to jump intervals, play with random picking students or solfege (3 mins)

3. Show students the solfege sequence, introduce progression (5 mins)

4. Show another progression, try to sing together (5 mins)

5. Sing the melody (2 mins)

6. Put the melody and solfege together (5 mins)

7. Teach beatbox (B T K T) (5 mins)

8. Put all the elements together (5 mins)

2. Learning Music notation

Goal Introduction of music notation


Activity 1. Teach music notation
2. Distribute paper ribbon to each student and ask them to wrap around their
forehead
3. Stick the music notation sign on the paper ribbon which student didn’t see what
they are corresponding to
4. They need to tell the other students who they are corresponding to
5. By teacher instruction, students need to form groups or making a melody
Time 30 mins
Material Paper ribbon, plastic tape, notation sign paper

Details:

1. Teach beat (16th note, 8th note, quarter note, half note, dotted half note, whole note, and rests (5
mins)

2. Separate them into 2 groups and distribute the cards, tell them to pair up: 11 pairs (10mins)

3. Teach notes (low C to high A) (5 mins)

4. Pair up again: 13 pairs (10 mins)

5. Form a melody/ note sequence (extra)

3. Learning Rhythm by singing and clapping

Goal Develop a sense of beat counting and rhythmic sense


Activity 1. Demonstrate and guide for steady beat counting (Hands/Footsteps)
2. Create a melody with students and sing together
3. Put two together
