Student Writing Reflection Sheet

Assignment Title: Beowulf essay

Student Writing Goal: My writing goal is to score an 85% or higher on all my assignments. I want to be more of a
creative writer. I also want to include enough examples and fully explain the quotes I include in my writing.

Instructions:
1) Re-read the paper (and teacher feedback).
2) Complete this reflection sheet.

What was the purpose of this writing assignment?

The purpose of this writing was to explain the values of the Anglo-Saxons. Also to talk about how these
values are portrayed in Beowulf. I also got to compare the values back then to the one seen today. I realized
that not much has changed and the values and very similar.

How did you perform in relation to the expectations of the writing rubric?
Overall I did pretty well but there were little errors like spelling. I also used 2nd person and I should not have
therefore I didn’t meet the rubric expectations.

What aspect of this piece did you do well? (give example/quotes to support claims)
I think I did well in explaining my examples. After using a quote I made sure to clearly explain myself and
what I wanted to say. I truly think that the read can see that when reading my piece.

Why have you/haven’t you chosen to revise this writing assignment?

I didn’t revise this paper because I finished it last minute and I decided not to ask anyone. Also because I
didn’t know who to ask. However, i should’ve revised it because I could’ve scored higher if I would’ve fixed
those little mistakes.

What will you do better in your next writing assignment, and how will I do it?
Next time I’m going to try to write it in the correct format from the beginning. I am also going to ask
someone to revise it for me right before I turn it in. At least one person needs to revise because fresh eyes do
make a difference.

To what degree of success did you achieve your previously stated goal(s)?
I did achieve my goal because I got a 90 and my goal was 85. I’m proud of myself for scoring a 90 because it
is a decent grade but I know I can do better. Although I do think that I could’ve tried to make the essay a little
bit longer.
