What Is Climate Change?

Climate change is a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a
change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely
to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of
fossil fuels. It can be really harmful.
What Are The Causes of Climate Change?
There are many causes of climate change one is that when cows eat a lot and
they and they burp they produce a chemical called methane when that goes into
the atmosphere it is worse that carbon dioxide. Another is fossil fuel mining, this is
a cause because we burn fossil fuels and we mine for oil and because of that bad
chemicals go into the atmosphere. Also the Sun influences this because Satellite
observations since the late 1970s have shown a slight decrease in the sun’s total
energy output. However, instead of cooling, the Earth has warmed over this period.
What Are The Causes of Climate Change?
Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment.
Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and
animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner. Effects that scientists
had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now
occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat
waves, and other things.
Carbon Footprint
What is a carbon footprint you may ask well a carbon footprint is the amount of
carbon dioxide and other carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of
fossil fuels by a particular person and everybody has a different carbon footprint.

This is my Carbon Footprint:

9,558 kgs of CO2 per year, compared to an average of 11,823 kgs for
Massachusetts, United States, and 3,791 kg (= 8,358 lbs) worldwide.
Ways Humans Negatively Impact The Earth
1) Deforestation: We are destroying the earth by cutting all the trees and we are also
destroying the animals’ homes.
2) Destroying Coral Reefs: Marine life relies on the nitrogen and other nutrients that they
produce and they help to clean the seas. The World Wide Fund for Nature claims that
25 percent of the world's coral reefs are already considered damaged beyond repair
and another two-thirds are under serious threat. This image shows a tropical reef in the
Red Sea.
3) Global Warming: The burning of fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas and petroleum
releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Deforestation also contributes to a rise in
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, as there are fewer trees to soak it up. Intensive
farming of livestock, particularly sheep and cattle, produces an excess of methane in
the atmosphere, which is also a greenhouse gas, and farming fertilizers release nitrous
oxide, another greenhouse gas.
How Can We Help?
1) We can't stop eating beef and switch our diet to other foods.

2) We can stop using fossil fuels and switch to renewable energy.

3) We can start to use solar panels to get energy.
