Overall Goal: Students will be able to write and speak in Chinese, at the end of this lesson,
students need to use Chinese to do a presentation based on what they learn from class.

Lesson Introduction (Hook, Grabber):


Day 1: Begin with asking the students what’s the difference between Chinese food and American
food? After students answer the question, teacher will take out the Chinese food and ask
students to answer the question again. Teacher will lead a class discussion about what Chinese
dishes does the students have before, and what’s their favourite one. Give everyone a chance to
talk about it.

Lesson Main:

Day 1: Go through the key terms definition, give students opportunity to practice with their
neighbor. Then separate the class into two groups, students need to use Chinese to tell the
dishes as much as possible, put the names in either American dishes or Chinese dishes, in three
minutes who can get the most correct names is the winner. Everyone in the winner team will get
2 extra point. Students can use their laptop to search online but they need to pronounce the
words correctly. After this activity, introduce the main project to students. Students need to get
into group of 3 people, each group will choose a Chinese dish and search online how to make it.
What’s the difference between them to American dish, is the way they cook different? Or other
reasons? After the research, students will create a presentation based on what they find. More
information can be find on the handout. At the end of class they need to have their group already
and have a idea about the dish they choose to present. Homework for today: Practice the key
terms.

Day 2: This is a work day for students, students will work on their Chinese Food Culture
Presentation on their laptop. Students can ask any questions about their research, how to
pronounce the words, or other questions. Students have all the information they need already. If
they lose their handout, it also can be find on Classroom, under the Chinese Food Culture
assignment. Student need to share their presentation link to instructor's email address at the end
of class. Homework for today: Finish the presentation, prepare all the materials you need for
presentation before next class, review the key terms definition.

Day 3: Student will present their presentation today, the presentation order was already post on
Classroom, students should be prepared before class. Set up timer while students is
presentening, grade based on the rubric, give each groups feedback after they finish. No
homework for today. If have time left at the end of the class, plan the Kahoot game.

Lesson Ending:
End the lesson with discussing the main difference between Chinese food and American food.
Students will come up with their own opinions based on the presentation they did. Ask students
what new words did they learn in this project.
