Warm-Up
● Tuning
● Instruct students to play the notes of a Bb major scale with four marcato eighth notes for
each note of the scale
● After playing this scale, have students close their eyes and try again, focusing on
blending individual articulation with the rest of the section
○ Ask students → Individually, were you shorter? Longer?
● Repeat once more, this time blending with the entire band

● Marcato at m. 17
○ Isolate Flute, Alto Saxophone and French Horn
○ Marcato should be short and intense, and consistent across the band
● M. 25
○ Isolate Clarinet Melodies - right rhythms/right notes
■ Clarinet 1 transition from m. m. 28 - m. 29
○ Isolate Pencil Tappers (on support rods this time) - right rhythms
● M. 33
○ Add an emphasis at the beginning of each phrase - marked by beginning of a slur
○ Ask students → Descriptors for this section of the piece?
■ Ex. Opposite, lyrical, flowing, streaming, fluid
