Rhetorical Analysis Reflection

This essay was by far the hardest I have ever had to write. Personally, I think I am a very

persuasive, argumentative type of person when it comes to facts, so it was definitely a struggle

to write this paper. Because of this, I intended for this essay to describe the ad image that I

chose based on what I had in front of my face. The purpose of it was to show my thought

process and not to tell people to think the same way I do, but to inform them why I thought

things were the way they were. I wanted this to help the reader to have an idea of what is going

on and make their own conclusions. The readers are people who do not see gender role

stereotypes as a huge issue, as they would be able to understand the analysis part better. For

me this was difficult because I think females are extremely discriminated but this type of writing

is best understood by those who think otherwise - typically men.

To find the image I used, it took me an extremely long time. For some reason I could not

make a decision on which advertisement could help me pull out the most information.

Unfortunately, the one I chose was really hard for me to analyze, but I pulled through the day

before it was due. Honestly, I did absolutely zero planning for this essay because I had a hard

time with it in the first place. However, when I finally picked an image, I made a list like the
activity that we did in class. This was definitely an important step in this writing process for me

because I finally got a start to give me some motivation.

My peer review group was extremely helpful. They showed me areas that needed

improvement and gave me ideas to change those areas. I do wish that they would have given

me some ideas of more claims, but they both told me they did not know how I even made that

many claims myself since it was such a straight forward ad. As I said before, the in-class

activities analyzing the Red Robin and Mr. Clean ads was super helpful. Whenever I was stuck on

my paper, I would refer back to those notes I took to spark ideas.

My experience with analysis was extremely slim before this essay. Now that I am done, I

feel like I am more successful with this process, but definitely not perfect. I am not a fan of it at

all, but I know that it makes me a better, more complex writer. My visual analysis affects the

reader in triggering their minds by sharing new and creative ideas with them.
