MARU 310/320 DME - 111 -

Transmitter Calibration

 Procedure of TX Calibration
test case below, RF port on cabinet must be 50Ω terminated with DME Antenna or
Dummy load.
1. Measure TX peak power with test equipment; above two test equipment are usually used to
test output peak power

 By the power Sensor; coupled power(coupling loss is marked on the front of DPU) is measured
under service status(not necessary to disconnect RF cable for measurement)
☞Considerations; coupling loss and cable loss between sensor and DPU test port (TX/TX2)

 By the peak power meter; a radiating peak power is measured directly

☞Considerations; additional RF cable loss (cable length shall be as short as possible and exact loss
shall be determined), service interruption while the test

MARU 310/320 DME - 112 -

Transmitter Calibration
2. If power calibration is necessary, adjust Gaussian Gain(LMMS  Maintenance)
3. If the Gaussian Gain is changed by operator, a power table on GUI has to be set
☞GUI] LMMS  Calibration  Transponder Cal.  TX1 and 2
Cal.

 Low’ Gaussian Gain @ 50W(or 500W)

 Medium; Gaussian Gain @ 75W(or 750W)
 High; Gaussian Gain @ 100W(or 1000W)

☞ Before Power Table is set, each Gaussian Gain at low(50W), medium(75W), and high
power(100W) has to be determined by test equipment to fill out columns.

MARU 310/320 DME - 113 -

Transmitter Calibration

4. Change over and process step 2 and 3 for other transmitter

5. Final verification(TX1/TX2); set peak power to 100W(or other) and verify the value on test
equipment

6. Save; right click on mouse at transponder window and click ‘Write EEPROM’ in the list

- Gaussian Gain adjustment

MARU 310/320 DME - 115 -

For example, the TX power on Test equipment is sure of assigned power (like 100W or 1KW)
1. Record Gaussian Gain (1749)
2. Set Gaussian Gain to three quarter of assigned power on Test Equipment (75W or 750W)
3. Record Gaussian Gain (for example 1500)
4. Set Gaussian Gain to half of assigned power on Test equipment(50W or 500W)
5. Record Gaussian Gain (for example 1200)
6. Go to ‘TX Power Table’ window (GUI] LMMS  Calibration  Transponder Cal.  TX1 and 2 Cal.)
7. Click ‘Get’ button (to get previous data)
8. Put recorded Gaussian Gain
- Low : 1200, 50W or 500W
- Medium : 1500, 75W or 750W
- High : 1749, 100W or 1000W
9. Click ‘Send’ button
10. Save

Monitor Calibration
After assigned peak power like a 100W (or 1000W) is defined by test equipment, a displayed
power shall be calibrated when the value displayed by Monitor is not suitable.

Monitor calibration should be taken under well-trained people and is accordance with monitoring
performance changing and alarm occurring seriously.

Voltage Adjustment

1. Measure a signal at TP338(from ANT to MON1) and TP344(from ANT to MON2) by

Oscilloscope (with any transponder)
2. If the voltage is not 3V, adjust VR(VR3, VR6) on DPU Back to 3V

MARU 310/320 DME - 120 -

Monitor Calibration
3. Measure a signal at TP339(from DPU to MON1) by Oscilloscope (with Transponder #1;
TP339 and TP345 are allocated with TX1 and TX2)
4. f the voltage is not 3V, adjust VR(VR4) on DPU Back to 3V
5. Changeover to Transponder #2, and measure a signal at TP345(from DPU to MON2) by
Oscilloscope
6. If the voltage is not 3V, adjust VR(VR5) on DPU Back to 3V
7. Final verification; the voltage at all 4 test ports(TP 338, 344, 339, and 345) shall be same as
3V.

☞ If the voltage at TP338 and TP344 are unbalanced with Transponder #1 and Transponder #2
while final verification, refer to TX Calibration chapter and determine real TX power again
whether TX1 and TX2 are unbalanced.

MARU 310/320 DME - 121 -

Monitor Calibration

If the peak power displayed by MON is not suitable with real,

8. Open LMMS GUI

☞LMMS > Calibration > Monitor Calibration > MON1 Power Cal. and MON2 Power Cal.
9. Click [Set power]  Set power as half (50W or 500W)  Close
10. Put half power in LOW column  Click [Calibration]
11. Click [Set power]  Set power as assigned (100W or 1000W)  Close
12. Put assigned power in HIGH column  Click [Calibration]
13. Verify displayed power by MON whether it is changed to assigned power like 100W or 1000W
14. Process step 9 ~11 for both Monitors with both Transponders
15. Save; right click on mouse at Monitor Window(both MON1 and MON2) and click ‘Write
EEPROM’ in the list
