1. Theory of DME
MARU 310/320 DME -3-
DME is …
Pulse Spacing
Time difference between 50% rising point of the first pulse and 50% rising
point of the second pulse (pulse pair).
Interrogation signal; INTG
Pulse pair signal from the aircraft to request the distance information.
Reply signal

AC/DC Unit
Rectifying main power supply (AC 85~265V) into DC +27V (1500W class) Detecting
value of output voltage and current.
Linked to Battery unit. (Turnover, Battery charging)
Voltage (DC +27V) adjusting Port is built in at the front.
To minimize the input Noise, a Noise Filter is installed at the external input part.
DC/DC Unit
Converting DC +27V to +50V to provide driving voltage for LPA and HPA.
Detecting value of output voltage and current.
Battery Unit
2 Battery Cells(12V, 65AH) are connected by series to work as DC +27V. Composed of 2
Blocks. (2Blocks * 2Cells each = 4 EA Battery Cells used.)
Detecting value of output voltage and current of the Battery.
Linked to AC/DC unit.
FAN Unit
2 Operation modes (Auto/Manual) are built in, and can be set up by the operator.
5EA of FAN module (DC +24V) are at the unit, and Alarm function is built in.
RCMU
The operator can monitor and control the system at a remote environment.
Monitor: Graphic LCD + LED indicator + Buzzer
Control: keypad
RCMU can be connected to LCU through RS-232, Dial-up modem or a Leased Line.

Do not disconnect any RF Cable from the cabinet under RF switch is on (DC/DC), any
Procedure of TX Calibration
test case below, RF port on cabinet must be 50Ω terminated with DME Antenna or
Dummy load.
1. Measure TX peak power with test equipment; above two test equipment are usually used to
test output peak power
By the power Sensor; coupled power(coupling loss is marked on the front of DPU) is measured
under service status(not necessary to disconnect RF cable for measurement)
☞Considerations; coupling loss and cable loss between sensor and DPU test port (TX/TX2)
☞ Before Power Table is set, each Gaussian Gain at low(50W), medium(75W), and high
power(100W) has to be determined by test equipment to fill out columns.
6. Save; right click on mouse at transponder window and click ‘Write EEPROM’ in the list

Monitor Calibration
- Power Table Set
Monitor calibration should be taken under well-trained people and is accordance with monitoring
performance changing and alarm occurring seriously.
Adjust Point of the signal going to MONs(on DPU) by screw (flat) Driver
Increase;counterclockwise
Decrease;clockwise
Voltage Adjustment
☞ If the voltage at TP338 and TP344 are unbalanced with Transponder #1 and Transponder #2
while final verification, refer to TX Calibration chapter and determine real TX power again
whether TX1 and TX2 are unbalanced.
