The Importance of Cryptography
Over- time people have only gotten smarter and smarter. Creating new technology,
hacking into computers or websites, etc. Cryptography is where the real geniuses are.
Cryptography or cryptology is the art of solving or writing codes. People actually have
discovered mathematical concepts and formulas for code breaking. It is a lot like solving puzzles.
Cryptology is important to our lives because it is used to reveal secrets and for safer
communications. It dates back to World War 2 in order to gain upper hand for secret keys to
encrypt data. The Germans used it in World War 2, which was the greatest cryptanalysis. The
U.S Navy to break the Japanese Navy Crypo- systems leading to the U.S victory. In World War
1 a new way of encryption rose to the world without the U.S army knowing about it. Meanwhile
the French and Britain already knew about the codes. It also affects our banks we use today for
data security but money cannot be encrypted. As Sherlock Holmes once said, “The world runs on
codes and ciphers John. From million-pound security system at the bank to the pin machine you
took expectation to cryptology un habits our every working moment.”
In order to get a career in the Cryptology department you will need a bachelor’s degree in
mostly mathematics and computer science as well as a digital certificate. Some even have a
Master in Science in information security. Also they may have to study different variety of
language in order to decode some of the puzzles. The average salary of a cryptologist in May
2010 is 99,380 top percent earning 153,620. Years of experience may also include more money.
Cryptography is in many other places like in the Navy. They have a Navy Cryptologic Technical
Interpretative for communication technology with aircrafts, ships, and submarines. It is also in
mathematical equations. Cryptography provides secrecy within our Nations data and for
anonymous communications. They have different types of encryptions in cryptography such as,
symmetric cryptography. This theory is for receiving and sending messages. Data encryption
standard, advanced encryption standard, modern cryptography which involves multiples theories
for examples, the number theory,” a natural integer that has finite number of divisions greater
than two is known as a composite number”, also used in many fields of algebra. There is also
computational- complexity theory this theory is a branch of computer science and mathematics
put together which helps with ‘how efficiency problems can be solved on a model of
computational using algorithm”. Probability theory is another theory involved with
cryptography. Which helps because it is mathematical study with random or unnecessary
phenomena. Cryptography word actually comes from the Greek meaning,” hidden or writing”.
It was mainly for military purposes.
Cryptography has been around for a long time and researchers are still finding out
more ways to make more encryptions for better security data. Imagine being able to send a talk
to another person where no one else understands. Cryptography would be a very interesting topic
to learn about or study. It will take time, dedication and patience since it is not a piece of pie.
The cryptography encryptions will only keep on advancing and getting harder to decode which
will give us a good advantage if we succeed on progressing.
