African leaf (Vernonia Amygdalina Delile) is one of the plants that was
used as a traditional medicine, one of them as anticancer. This study
aimed to determine the chemical compounds, toxic effects and LC50
values of African leaf extracts with solvent variations. The African leaf in
this study was extracted using maceration method with three solvents
which are n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol 70%. The chemical
compounds of African leaf extracts was test qualitatively and then toxicity
test is carried out using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. The
results of the study showed that n-hexane extracts contains flavonoids,
tannins and glicosides. Ethyl acetate extracts contains flavonoids,
saponins, tannins and glicosides. Ethanol 70% extracts contains
flavonoids, steroids, saponins, tannins and glicosides. Results of linier
regression analysis showed that ethanol 70% extracts is extracts with the
highest LC50 values with LC50 values of is 31,29 ppm, LC50 values of ethyl
acetate extracts of is 51,56 ppm, and LC50 values of n-hexane extracts of
is 82,62 ppm. The results of this study indicate that three extracts included
a strong toxicity category with range 0-100 ppm.
