Rogers released the following statement about the letter:
This morning, the District learned that a middle school teacher
issued a note to students denying extra credit work opportunities
toward grade improvement. This note was not approved by District
administrators and was distributed without District permission.
While the District cannot comment on confidential personnel
matters, it does wish to assure our students, parents, and
community that issues such as these are taken seriously. At any
time the District receives a complaint, it follows the proper protocol
to ensure that any necessary steps are taken. Be assured that the
District, including schoo! level principals and District level
administrators, has an open door policy, providing opportunities for
our students, staff, and parents to discuss concerns with us.
With regard to this situation, the District reassures its students and
parents that ensuring student success and achievement - both
inside and outside of the classroom — is our primary concern along
with the safety of our children. The District supports our
administrators and educators in providing multiples avenues for our
students to achieve academic accomplishment and strives to
provide these chances for our students each and every day.
We encourage any stuclents or parents who have any questions or
concerns to contact your school principal. We are committed to
putting our stakeholders first and will do all that we can to ensure
that our actions are carried out in the best interests of our children,
employees, and their families.
