My Lifelong Wellness Reflection

By: Amal Mohamed

I took this class because it is one of the requirements for nursing school. Regarding any

connections between this course and any other one, I have a couple of examples. This course

complements what I learned during my physical therapy appointments that I had while

recovering from back injuries due to two different accidents. Before I took this yoga class, I

didn’t know anything about it. I thought yoga was only about stretching the body. So, when I

enrolled for this course, I was really afraid of hurting my body, because I deal with some

physical issues, especially back and chronic chest pains.

The first day of my yoga class, I was thrilled to learn something about it for the first time.

The first two classes were very challenging for me, because I was doing more stretching than I

have ever done before. It was really painful, but at the end of the day, my body feels so good that

as soon as I lie down on the bed, I fall asleep. In this course, I have learned about proper body

posture, meditation and breathing control. As well as the different kinds of poses that stretch our

bodies and flex our various muscles. Also, I learned about the chakras and how these exercises

help us in finding balance and healing. Second, the challenges that I was taking on through the

modules such as reading and answering the questions really built my vocabulary and improved

my writing as well.

Lastly, but certainly not least, our teacher was very friendly. She was also very

knowledgeable about her job and knew what she was doing throughout her lessons, meditations

and the workout. I am so very grateful that I took this course, because it really benefited me a lot.

.Specifically, I learned how to practice yoga poses and mediations at home regularly. Because of
the poses, stretches, and chakra positions that I have been doing in as well as after class, my back

pain is almost gone.

I recommend this Lifelong Wellness course to anyone who may be interested in this

subject matter. I know that with our busy schedules, we hardly have time to do these exercises.

However, once we realize their importance, we will be more willing to rearrange our schedules

and prioritize so that we can reap the maximum benefits of these exercises. This class can help us

both mentally and physically. In other words, it helps us in resting our minds and bodies. Plus it

gives us greater strength and inner peace to our spirits.
