What causes the seasons?

The tilt of the Earth causes parts of Earth to receive different
amounts of sunlight throughout the year. The amount of sunlight
an area receives creates its seasons. This also causes the number of
daylight hours to change during the year. The picture below shows
the Northern Hemisphere’s seasons.

Spring
The hours of daylight and
night are equal.

Summer
The Northern Hemisphere
has the most daylight
hours and receives the
most direct rays.

Winter
The Northern
Hemisphere has the
shortest days and
least direct rays.
