INTRODUCTION
This paper will explain about using games to teaching vocabulary to young learners.
Vocabulary is one most important skills that necessary for teaching and learning a foreign
language. It is the basis for development of all skills, there are listening, speaking, reading,
and writing. Vocabulary is the main tool for the students their attempt to use English
effectively. Usually to encourage their vocabulary also not easy, because children love to
have fun and play, they also get bored very fast if the teacher is teaching them using the
old conventional method and techniques, so teacher should choose suitable teaching
methods that serve to children’s nature. According to 5 article, the researcher mostly to
choose games as a technique teaching vocabulary to young learners, because games proved
to be an effective tool when devised to explain vocabularies and they make it easier to
remember their meaning

B. DISCUSSION

According to first article, Games can help young learners to learn their vocabulary
effectively. The Children need experience and hear the language when they are small, at
that time the children learn languages better than adults which they have more time for
learning, and also don’t have any responsibilities they learn language better than adults.
The teacher has an essential role in helping students to improve their vocabulary,
sometimes some children develop very fast, and other might need more time. Young
learners are different in terms of how easily they memorize vocabulary. Memorizing is
technique to teaching vocabulary in order to the children get many vocabulary to develop
their ability. There are several approaches and methods that could be used to teach English
vocabulary to young learners. Using real objects that children could visualize later is a
good way to learn vocabularies of the language. They need to listen to their teaching using
the word and repeat it as well. Sometimes teacher need another method in the classroom
like Total Physical Response in order to handle the children, because the children are hyper,
physically active and couldn’t concentrate for a long time, while as a teacher of young
learners encourage their student to communicate by using communicative language
approach. As the teacher choose the way using games to teaching vocabulary to young
learners, games give the children an active role when playing promoting student centered
activities. Using games not only enhances student’s motivation, but also provide an
incentive and stimulus to use the language. And also the children participate and pay more
attention because they enjoy themselves and the classroom during play game, repetition
will be less boring and fun for children to which consolidates their learning of new words.

First as the teacher should do before play games, the teacher should ask to the
children to make a group, make a group is one technique that will help in create a
cooperative and competitive atmosphere among the members of the group. The second is
the teacher give explanation and instruction about the game that will play. In order to
achieve the desired outcomes and fulfil the goal behind its implementation, it is become
children understand how to play and practice the list of vocabularies intended to be learned.
If the teacher do not explain the rules and instruction about the game. They will be no
outcomes and they will get bored very fast. So as the teachers of young learners should
understand about the characteristic of their students in order to create a good environment
for learning. There are five games amongst many to be used to teach vocabulary, include
hot potatoes, memory challenge, last one standing, Pictionary, and bingo Before playing
game, the teacher might have a little time to drill vocabularies they gave their students. The
most important is there should be balance between the type of game, number of
vocabularies, time, effort, and the use of the students’ native language.
There are differences and similarity the techniques about other article which is tell
teaching vocabulary to young learners especially for elementary school.in this research, the
researcher using some different technique in teaching vocabulary between grade 1st, 2nd,
3rd, and grade 4th, 5th, 6th.. There are some of similarity techniques that applied between 1st,
2nd, and 3rd, and grade 4th, 5th, 6th, include listen and do, listen and repeat, in pair or group
discussion, modelling and demonstration, all of the techniques which used by the teacher
when the teacher make introduction to the lesson, before it the teacher always ask to the
children to sit down and listen to the teacher. Then the teacher give some vocabulary which
will repeated by the students, and then the teacher ask to the student to make some group
was given a project to be solved. Then the teacher use question and answer to ask student
during the process and how to answer the question, and also the teacher give example how
to pronounce words with clear voice in order to the student can pronounce word well after
that the student followed the teacher, the teacher also ask the student what their think like
their ideas or mention examples as many as possible.
Other technique using singing songs and using pictures, using singing song to
make them enjoy because children have short attention. To have children’s attention or
concentration, teacher need to provide enjoyable activities, one of enjoyable activities for
children is singing together, that’s all will make the children enjoy and fun in the process
learning vocabulary. If the students get bored in the class like making crowded and disturb
other students or enjoy with themselves the teacher can ask the student to go out the
classroom and learn something new outside the class or doing outdoor activity. It is more
interesting than indoor activities, because this activity is conducted outdoor, when the
children are out door, the children might get more motivation to learn something about the
environment around them. This technique can easily the students’ vocabulary and lose their
boredom in studying English. But the students seem to be tired, because the activities in
outdoor are more than one activity. And all that has been discussed above the teacher don’t
forget to giving worksheet, the function of worksheet are to make the students not to get
bored and the teacher will know about the ability the students. Remember that children
often experience boredom, therefore the teachers give a variety of activities when teaching
learning process.

C. CONCLUSION
Teaching vocabulary to young learners is not easy, because the children love play and enjoy
with themselves, to solve this problem using games are one of the best ways. Games can
help young learners to learn their vocabulary effectively. And the teacher usually introduce
role of games before the students play. Using games to teach vocabulary to young learners
also have advantage and disadvantage, using them will enable young learners to acquire
the lesson with fun where they can remember all the vocabulary, and the disadvantages
make the children feel tired. Besides that the teacher should be chosen appropriately to
student’s level, interest, and context.
