Personal Growth

The Learning and Technology program (LRNT), has enhanced and impacted my

personal growth tremendously. It has given me confidence to use technology in

education, strengthened my spiritual life as a result of amazing collaborations with other

classmates, and allowed me the privilege to provide a positive example to my students.

The journey of becoming a teacher has been one of the most challenging, yet

rewarding experiences of my life. In the beginning of my teaching career, I worked in an

autism class my first year and an emotionally disturbed class my second year. I found

myself spending long nights and many weekends in the classroom. The thought of

completing a master’s program while being a full time teacher seemed daunting and

overwhelming. In addition, I felt hesitant to start such coursework, as I did not consider

myself tech savvy. However, with technology ever changing and growing, I knew this

would be the best way to venture out of my comfort zone plus give me the ability to bring

knowledge to my students in special education. Giving my students the technological

skills to become growing, thriving members of society would allow them to perform

alongside the general population.

My spiritual growth progressed exponentially throughout the LRNT program.

The program provided a forum to share our hearts, biblical perspectives, struggles, praise

reports, and prayer requests. Having the privilege to incorporate Christ’s word

throughout our coursework was an absolute blessing. Christ wants us in community.

With obvious distance between us, the gift of technology allowed fellowship with one

another in a very open and honest way. The supportive prayers and biblical insights

given, have truly opened my eyes to the love of Christ and the love of community He
desires for us. “And let us consider how we may spur on another toward love and good

deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging

one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching ” Hebrews 10:24 (NIV).

Showing my students that you can remain a life-long learner by continuing

education and persevering when things get tough, is an invaluable lesson. My students

will see that I am fighting alongside them, proving that you never stop learning. My

desire is to be an example that broadening your horizons by trying new things will always

be worth it. Although college is not for everyone, this would show my students that

giving up is not an option but rather striving to better yourself in any avenue is the best

way to achieve success.

I am grateful for the experience LRNT has provided. I have expanded my

knowledge with current technological advancements in education, my spiritual growth,

and my ability to continue to make a positive impact in my life and the lives of my

students.
