Poem Inspired by a Painting

In class there will be 5 different paintings.

1. You will have 90 seconds to look at each one for initial


impressions and thoughts. Make notes on your paper for
each one. This will be repeated for each painting.
2. After seeing all 5, you will have the opportunity to walk
around and re-examine the paintings and select the one that
you find the most interesting.
3. Expand on your initial thoughts. Consider some of the
following (you do not need to answer all of these, they are
just prompts):

a. Why did you select this painting?


b. What do you think is going on the scene?
c. What is the back story?
d. Why did the artist choose to paint this scene?
e. What imagery is present?
f. How do the colours used affect the person looking at
the painting?

4. Using your thoughts and ideas, write a poem that is


inspired by the painting. Minimum of 12 lines. It does not
need to rhyme.
