29. Given that:
x minutes are required for home activities per day.
y minutes are required for walking per day.
Total time involved in physical activities = 30 minutes per day.
So, x + y = 30 ...(i)
As per schedule, it is given that home activities per minute reduces 3 k. cal and walking per minute reduces 4 k. cal.
So, 3x + 4y = 100 ...(ii)

5 tubelights of 40 W are used for ‘x’ hours a day.
\ Energy consumed by 5 tubelights in x hours is
= 5 × 40 × x
= 200x watt-hour per day
An electric press of 500 W is used for 4 hours a day.
\ Energy consumed by an electric press in 4 hours is

Total energy consumed in a day = W watt-hour

\ As per situation
200x + 2000 = W
Table for the equation is obtained by putting x = 5, 10 and 0.
W = 200x + 2000
= 200 × 5 + 2000
= 1000 + 2000
= 3000 watt hour
= 3 KWh
Similarly get value of W for x = 0 and 10.

Running one minute per day reduces 8 k. cal.
So, 8a = 200 ...(i)

B decided to go for running up stairs b minutes per day.
Running up stairs one minute per day reduces 10 k. cal.
So, 10b = 200 ...(ii)

Total consumption of electricity = x units.
As per Delhi tariff slab, rate per unit in actual bill is given as
for 1st 200 units is `4
for next 200 units is `5.95
for above 400 units is `7.30
Cost for 1st 200 units = `4 × 200 = `800
Cost for next 200 units t= `5.95 × 200 = `1190
Cost for above 400 units = `7.30 × (x – 400)
Total cost = `800 + `1190 + `7.30 × (x – 400)
As per situation
`[800 + 1190 + 7.30(x – 400)] = `r
⇒ 7.30x + 800 + 1190 – 2920 = r
7.30x – 930 = r.

31. BMI of a person is ratio of weight in kilogram divided by the square of height in metres. If a person weighs x kilogram
and its height is y metre then BMI is given by
x
BMI =
y2
In Ist case
y = 150 cm = 1.5 m and BMI is 27
x
So, 27 = ...(i)
(1.5)2
x = 27 × (1.5)2 = 60.75 kg
His mass is 60.75 kg but BMI is 27, so he comes in overweight category.
In 2nd case
y = 150 cm = 1.5 m and BMI is 31
x
So, 31 = ...(ii)
(1.5)2
⇒ x = 31 × (1.5)2 = 69.75 kg
His mass is 69.75 kg but BMI is 31, so he comes in obese category.

In Bill A
Charges for consuming 1st 200 units of energy is `4
Charges for consuming next 200 units of energy is `5.95
Charges for consuming more units (above 400 units), i.e., 83 units more than 400 unit is `7.30
In Bill B
Charge for consuming 1st 213 units of electrical energy is `4
Charges for consuming next 212 units of electrical energy is `5.95
Charges for consuming more 28 units of energy (more than 425 units) is `7.30
Hence, rate of consuming per unit of energy is different in both bills. However, total consumption of energy in both bills
is 453 units.
In Bill B, customer is paying less amount.
Comparison of units consumption in Bill A and Bill B.

Rate of Consuming Unit Consumption in Bill A Unit Consumption in Bill B

`4 200 units 215 units
`5.95 next 200 units next 215 units
`7.30 above 400 units above 425 units
