How to distort a space in Photoshop

Select “Create New”

Create a canvas size

that is 1500 x 1500
px

Portrait Orientation

300 Resolution

White Background

Click “Create”

Add your image by

dragging it to the
photoshop canvas

Make your image fit

the canvas

Shortcuts:
Command + T: adjust
image size
Shift + Option(alt):
Scale image non-
proportionally

Go to 3D

New Mesh from

Layer

Depth Map to ->

Plane

Once in 3D mode
look at the
workspace in the
bottom right corner
Click 3D

Unlick the eye on “Infinite

Light 1”

Go back to your
main screen and
right click in the
blank space

You will get this box

First start with the scene page

Click on Style

Select “Unlit Texture”

Go down to “Lines” and uncheck the
box

Check the boxes “Linearize Colors”

and “Back faces”
Go to environment

Fist uncheck the shadows box

Second uncheck the IBL box

Set the Opacity to 0%

Go to Coordinates

Have Units set as

Pixels

Only using the first

Z coordinates you
can do 1000-1050
This is will make
your image fit the
3D canvas size
Using this tool
in 3D mood
you can spin
the image and
find the most
interesting
part of your
image

Using this tool

you can move
the image to
make sure it still
fills up the
canvas

Once done go to
layers and right
click
These selections should pop up

You are going to Rasterize 3D

Now you need to make a

new canvas

Go to file

Then go to new
 Create a canvas size
that is 1920 x 1000
px

Landscape
Orientation

300 resolution

White Background

Click “Create”

Now you will

take the image
you created to
the new canvas
by clicking and
dragging it to it

Make your image

fit the canvas

 To start distorting
your image go to

Filter

Liquify

First go to properties a
check the box that says
“Pin Edges” so the canvas
doesn’t move around

You can pick any size brush

you want

You can do the free style

or the clock-wise tool to
Liquify your image
Press Ok once done

This tool will help

your image look
smoother

Filter

Stylize

Oil Paint
Under the brush set
everything to a 10

Under the lighting set

the shine to 0

Press Ok once done

To distort your
image even more
go to

Filter

Distort

Polar Coordinates
This can make the image
really interesting to view

You can preview it using

this window

You can either pick

rectangular to polar

Or polar to rectangular
and press OK once done

You can do this as much as

you want till you get the
style you like

You need to get rid

of any white spots on
your image

Go to the stamp tool

Now you can click

the white spots and
get rid of them
 To save your image

File

Export

Save As…

Format as JPG

Export all

Now you have your

Distorted Abstract
Space!
