¨Why I want to be a teacher¨

Imagine this: twenty engaging eyes are staring at you wanting more. They thirst

for attention and knowledge, and as the person they are looking at, you start to crave

that attention. What I am referring to is teaching. Being a teacher is something I want to

do because I want that feeling. I want the feeling of making an impact on students and

changing their lives for the good.

Being a teacher is like raising about 20 kids or more for an entire year. You see

these children almost every single day and are responsible for supplying them with

knowledge. Each and every single one of them look up to you and are eager to learn.

Teaching is a hard profession but it is extremely important to the lives of basically

everyone. It is a critical job that requires lots of qualities that not everyone can possess.

A teacher must be patient, willing, and knowledgeable and I believe I occupy all of those

qualities.

As most people know, the teaching profession is a declining field that many

individuals don't want to go into anymore. The main reason for this is primarily due to

the pay teachers get. For me, the pay isn't even a factor that plays into my urge to

become a teacher. I want to teach because of that feeling you get when you know you

made a positive impact on a students life. For my internship, I am grateful to teach in a

kindergarten class. Kindergarten is the first year of school that kids go to and they

absolutely love it. They are eager to learn and have this twinkle in their eye that is

indescribable. At my internship, I get to teach many lessons where I get to see the

moment something clicks in their little brains that allows them to understand what I am

saying. There are constantly moments where they get this sense of understanding that

pushes me to keep on doing it.

Ms. Houlihan, my cooperating teacher, once told me that her favorite part of

teaching was being able to see the dramatic changes from the beginning of the year to

the end of the year. You physically get to see the amount of knowledge you have given

to each and every single student no matter who the student is. Her saying these words

changed something for me and it made me seriously want to become a teacher. I crave

that feeling of knowing, without a doubt, that you have changed someone's life.

Being a teacher would allow me to express the love that I have for children and

allow me to do something beneficial to the world. I want to teach the generation that will

change the world in any way possible. A teacher, no matter the grade, has always made

some sort of impact on me that I will never forget and I would be dumb if I didn't do the

same. I have the ability and passion to become a teacher who values the students and

wants them to succeed. Being a teacher is the perfect fit for me and I will change the

lives others.
