Basic Rules

Scoring
- Any player other than dumby half can score a try, by placing the ball over
the try line without being touched by the opposition.
- Each touchdown is worth 1 point
Field
- The Touch Rugby field is 70 meters, from one try line to the other try line.
Substitution Box
- Players can be substituted during any point of the game
- The player coming off must go into the sub box before the next player can
go on
Possession of the Ball
- The balls touches the ground
- The half is touched with the ball
- The half attempts to make a try
- Six touches occur
- The player with the ball goes out of bounds
- A roll ball is performed incorrectly
- A tap is not correctly performed
The Touch
- Both teams are able to initiate the touch. The touch is when two players
from opposite teams touch if one of them have the ball. Players have six
touches before turn over.
Roll ball
- The players must roll the ball between their legs and step forward.
The dumby Half
• - The dumby half is the player who picks up the ball after a roll ball
Passing
• Every pass must be performed backwards, behind the player
Touch and Pass
• If a player is touched they cannot pass the ball
Penalty
• When a team and/or player is penalised the opposition now obtains
possession. They begin the next possession with a tap
• The defending team now has to begin 10 meters away
• A tap start can occur when;
o Forward Pass
o Touch and Pass ("late pass")
o Roll ball performed off the mark ("overstepping")
o Performing a roll ball prior to a touch being made ("voluntary
rollball")
o Defenders offside at the roll ball (5 metres)-Defenders offside at
the tap (10 metres)
o Deliberately delaying play-More than six players on the field-
Incorrect substitution-Falsely claiming a touch ("phantom touch")-
Using more than the minimum force to make a touch ("heavy
touch"
o Misconduct

Offside/onside
- Once a touch has been made, the opposition must move back 5m before
the next player picks up the ball
Sidelines
- If a player touches or goes out of bounds a turn over is rewarded to the
opposition
Obstruction
- No one is allowed to excessively contact another player throughout the
game
Team Rules
- 12 players can form one team.
- 6 players can play on the field at once
- 4 players are required to begin the game
Mixed Teams
- A team made up of female and male players
- At least 1 male has to be on the field
- No more than 3 males at once
The toss
- Both captains view the toss by the umpires. Captain who wins the toss
will gain possession of the ball and choose direction they want to score.
Durations
- Matches go for 40 minutes, 2 halves of 20 and a 5 minute break at half
time
Over time
- If a match is drawn it will go into over time and the drop off rule will
apply. This is when 1 player will leave the field from both teams until
there are 3 left. First team to score a try wins
Player attire
- Each team will have a correct uniform. Normal runners must be worn, no
spikes, or screw in studs. No jewellery permitted.
Foul Play
- Any foul play recognised by the umpire will penalise the player, either
dismissed from playing for a period of time, being sent off the pitch for
the end of the game, which will depend of the severity of the offence.
