Introduction

Teenager suicides due to academic pressure has become one of the major problems of
Pakistan. Suicide is a decision taken by a person after suffering through some worse and bad
events in life. Nowadays each and every one is aware about this issue but there was also a
time when people do not like to talk about it.There has been a steady increase in suicidal
cases related to the youth. World health organization stated in 2012 that ‘the 3rd leading cause
to death in some countries is suicide and the age group related to it is 15-44 years and is the
2nd leading cause in other countries with age group of 10-24 years.’

Youth is the most important asset to your nation as it serves you and plays the most important
role in nation building but every other day in Pakistan we see on media we are losing our
youth as suicide has become a major issue for us. According to world health organization in
2002 there were more than 15000 suicide attempts made in Pakistan. Most of them which
committed suicide were the boys, the ratio of girls was slightly less. In 2011 according to
human rights commission of Pakistan there were 1153 suicide attempts which includes 5 or 6
teenagers’ suicide attempts which were made every day in Karachi.

Teenagers use different methods to attempt suicide like taking poison in form of liquid or
solid, hanging themselves, wrist cutting, jumping from high places and suffocation. From all
of these methods the most used is hanging, wrist cutting and suffocation.

Our research also points out the causes which lead to suicide these include financial
problems, less interaction among students in class like no socializing or different
environment among students which make it difficult for them to adjust. Other than this the
effects of suicide on the society are also pointed out in our research.

Recommendations

There are some responsibilities that should be fulfilled by the parents, government and the
teachers. To reduce suicide rates there are number of steps that can be performed in order to
insure that a teenage is not even thinking to attempt a suicide. From all over the world a
research tells us that parents, psychiatrists, and educationist have come together to provide
proper counselling to every student out there to reduce their stress level. Parents should also
try to spend more time with their child during home. A child must have a friendly
relationship between both father and mother so he can discuss each and every thing with
them. He should share his problems with them and try not to get lost or hopeless about life
because this can lead to drugs, stress and eventually suicide. The role of government is very
important in order to prevent such suicidal cases that are taking place in our society.
Government should take some steps in order to stop physical punishment of students,
teachers should be given training regarding this problem, and every school should have a
counsellor so students can discuss their problems or register any kind of complaints. (Mrs
Farrukh Zafar Khan, june 18,2012)

Body

Methods?

Wrist cutting is done to harm yourself however it is performed by suiciders to kill themselves.
This kind of method is the most painful way to die as you reach towards the second cut on your
wrist you see all the blood all over yourself at that moment you feel to stop or get desperate to
call someone for help but you don’t. However in this method the most painful thing is that you
can see yourself dying and feel the pain but can’t do anything.

Shooting yourself is another method used to suicide, there are many cases brought to hospital
where the person have blown up there half head by the shotgun and a suicide note was left
behind and in this kind of method the results are expected.

People try overdosing themselves my poison or painkillers, taking poison can give you death
on spot however taking large amount of painkillers can make you unconscious and after some
time vomit occurs. In this kind of case most of the victims are found alive with their suicide
note.

Hanging which is the most disturbing method and the most used method by the teenagers.
Hanging was done in the early ages for the punishment. People hang themselves but have no
idea how painful this method is .If your body hang for 30 min you can find in most of the cases
neck or nose breaks.( David Wong · November 02, 2007)

Conclusion

In the light of all the information discussed above we can conclude our research by suggesting
the teenagers to choose that way of life that you want, not to go after where the life takes you.
In country like Pakistan where suicide is consider as haram I honestly feel that this problem
should be ended. The solution to this problem is by giving proper training to the responsible
administration and by providing a good education can overcome this issue, above it has been
discussed that people are getting aware of this issue slowly so more awareness should be
created by the help of media and the religious scholars in order stop it .These depressed
teenagers need a proper psychological treatment in order to get devoted towards life. Involving
them in a religious process and providing them a proper education regarding what our religion
tells us about suicide? Can help them to recover their soul back and make them even stronger.
Other than these we can help the teenagers by making them feel part of us and this world, and
should also try to make them feel winning in there each part of life as this would help them to
overcome that thinking where they think there life’s full of failures. And lastly the roles of
parents, teachers and government should not be forgotten, they should be followed strictly in
order to put a complete stop to this sin.
