Fahrenheit 451

Did Faber make Montag into a murder? This book is called Fahrenheit 451, and from the

start, Faber was a big character. In the short time Faber knew Montag they went through a lot. In

Fahrenheit 451 Faber was a big impact on Montag in many ways like, he helped Montag be more

independent, gave him someone to trust, and helped him get out of trouble.

From the start Faber brought out the independence in Montag. When they first met Faber

gave Montag the ear piece to help Montag carry out his plan. His plan was to put bibles in all the

fire houses to start burning the fire houses down to stop burning other people houses down. “I’m

not thinking. I am doing like I’m told, like always. You said get the money and I got it. I didn’t

really think of it myself. When do I start working things out on my own?”(Bradbury 94). What I

am trying to say is that Faber gave Montag the confidence to be his own person.

In addition to the independence Faber also gave Montag another person to trust. Later in

the book they were together more and learned to trust each other. Montag knew he could trust

Faber and took his word for anything. ‘Yes, and look where were headed. You’ll have to travel

blind for a while. Here’s my arm to hold onto.”(95). By focusing on what Faber did for Montag,

we can see how much Montag relied on him.

Lastly, he helped Montag get out of trouble. Even though Faber got Montag into trouble,

he helped Montag get the cops off him. The bond the both of them had helped them work

together and Montag got away. “Yes, I believe that, if there’s something else I believe. It saved

itself up to happen. I could feel it for a long time, I was saving something up, and I went around

doing one thing and feeling another. God, it was like all there. It’s a wonder it didn’t show on

me, like fat. And now here I am, messing up your life, too. They might follow me here” (133).

Basically, The both of them wanted to help each other achieve what they wanted.

Ray Bradbury did a good job on showing how Faber helped Montag in things like

helping him be more independent, helping him get out of trouble, and gave him another person to

trust. In all of my points they all show how Faber helped Montag be a total different person, but

not in a bad way. Sometimes you have to go against what people think to do the right thing.
