The Truth of Borders

To the courageous people who suffered a crucial death, all to have a better life. The loss

of water, dehydration, illumination pushed them to keep striving. The immigrants battle through

so much, that you would not even want any of your loved ones to go through what they did. Let

us learn about the courageousness of those that cross the border and the truth of what they face.

Borders are made for a reason, to keep laws in place and to protect on another. Let me

explain why there should be no border. First what is use of law if border patrols are breaking the

law themselves, “The United States Government plays by these rules if you have something to

offer, you can stay” (Urrrea, 203). Just because other immigrants have money, it does not mean

that they should be given the opportunity and not the others. Everyone is trying to move forward,

they want a better life for themselves and their families. Why do the border patrols think they can

dictate the life of others? Another reason borders are not needed is to protect the lives of all

human beings. With people trying to cross many die, “Many of the walkers died on that stroll.

One of them was a pregnant nineteen-year-old woman” (69). If the United State did not have a

border, to this day she would probably still be alive. Unfortunately, death is the result of many

trying to cross and get to the United States. For example, if a father were in the process to cross

and did not make it, what would then happen to his family, his children? There will always be

pros and cons to having or not having a border, but let us look at the opposite side.

Let us look on now why borders are needed to protect the front line of the United States.

With borders in place, it brings peacefulness in both countries, “An open border suddenly

seemed like an act of war” (204). Borders are needed because there would be chaos between

countries and that is something that would not benefit either side. There would be no peace

between both countries it would bring war. These countries cannot be at war because our crops

and workers work in the field in the United States. The workers would not be able to help and

maintain these crops and civilization in the United States. Immigrants cross the border for a

reason it is not something that they do just for fun. They cross it because the immigrants want to

have a better life. In Mexico they win a little bit of money, not enough to support their family. Its

sometimes not enough for all of their needs. For example, the money they gain from their

previous would only pay half of what they would get in the United States, “No doubt Jesus let

Maradona know that he was aching to make some real money” (74). Borders are needed to

protect because the coyotes do not care for the pollos/walkers if they die; coyotes are just in it for

the money.

Knowing the truth of what happens to the immigrants in the dessert it is hard for them to

get through the tough terrain. Immigrants suffer without water and start to go insane. They would

drink their own urine to survive. The desert would not cut them a break; the immigrants that pass

the border have courage to go through the hot desert. They want a better life for themselves and

their families. The only way they could be successful in life is going to the United States and

working on the fields. They would want to work in whatever job in the United States so that they

can provide that better life just as they had imagined. The immigrants/ walkers are true

courageous people that fight for what they believe in, and that is freedom and a new life, a new

start in the great United States of America. The deserts are not your friend if you prepare for the

hot blazing desert it can still bite you on the back. The immigrants would try to bring drugs to

start with the money in the United States but we have borders to separate it from our land to their

land and having drugs in our land deals with many deaths. The deaths that happens every year is

either because of drugs being brought from Mexico and drug smugglers cross them to what you

call “el jefe”. The “Jefe” you as a mule, which could use you for smuggling drugs to the United

States. The “Jefe” does not see you as a friend or as a “compadre”. The “jefe” does not care if

you die, he just wants his products to be delivered and for them not to be detained or else he

would lose money. The immigrants sometimes do not have a choice in smuggling drugs. They

are forced to smuggle in drugs if not they would end up killing their family. The immigrants

would be punished if the bundle of drugs is not delivered. The coyotes would be the ones picking

up the bundle and turning it in to “El Jefe”. The “Jefe” does not care if you die in the dessert, he

just wants his bundles delivered. The Border Patrol would prevent the drugs from coming

through the United States. The immigrants go through the rough terrain in the dessert just have a

better life and just because they don’t make it or get caught with the bundle of drugs the “Jefe”

would find someone to end up killing the immigrant. The borders is what stops the immigrants

from crossing illegal substance to the United States. We have borders to protect us from

anything evil coming in from any country not just Mexico so there for yes we need borders to

keep this country safe. The border patrol agents risk their life every day to keep this country

safe, “drug and human smugglers use it as a freeway, and officers are at risk ever day of their

assignment” (79). The truth of the borders.
