The game rules will be for the teacher to split the children into 6 groups of 3 students. The
teacher will use the smart board to display only the definition on the board. The students will
have to read the definition and choose a word from the cut outs of the word bank. If the group
feels that they know what word goes with the definition they will have to fill in a blank space on
their group board, the students can fill any BLANK space that they choose. The group that
reaches four words in a row first will win. Each student will have to work together to choose
what word goes with the definition. The teacher will let the students know what team wins by
using the team names. The materials that will be needed for this game will be the smart board,
cut out of the vocabulary words, glue to paste the words on the blank bingo chart card, bingo
card on the flip chart. To expand the game for higher level thinking the students can draw a
picture on the flip chart that goes along with the vocabulary word. (For example, the can draw a
picture of someone gathering leaves) Modifications for ELL students or special education
students can be for them to be able to have the definition written on notebooks so that they can
look at it closer and for a longer period and the para professional can read the definition for those
students to help them. The vocabulary game can help with Jacob’s vocabulary development
because, he will be able to see the definition and he will have to help his team find the word. It
can help him with his recall skills, because he will see the word more than one time, and the
game can help engage him in learning while having fun at the same time. Jacob will be able to
be engaged in the game while participating to help his team find the correct word and paste it on
the flip chart.

Part 2
A book that would be appropriate for Jacob’s interest would be “Babe Ruth Saves
Baseball” by, Frank Murphy. Jacob loves sports and reading a book about sports could spark his
interest, and help him to be engaged in the story. An at home activities that Jacob can do at
home will be to write a few sentences about his favorite part of the book and why. Jacob can
read and re-read the book while his family listens to him and he can read his explanation about
his favorite part of the book. This activity can support Jacob’s vocabulary development because
he will read the book aloud to his family and he will use vocabulary words to explain to his
family about his favorite part of the book.
Another activity that Jacob could do at home using the book, would be for him to find 3
words in the book that he does not know the meaning to. Jacob and his mom could use whatever
resources they have at home to find the meaning of the words. Jacob could write the meaning of
the words he does not know and read over the vocabulary words with his mom. This could help
support Jacob’s vocabulary development because he would be learning three new words he did
not know before, and him and his mom would work together to find the meaning of the word.

An activity that Jacob could do at home would be to use the same three words that Jacob
did not know and get more practice with the three words by drawing a picture about the words.
Jacob’s mom could give him all the materials to help him draw his picture and let him hang it up
on the refrigerator, so he could see the word and his drawings often. This activity could help
support Jacob’s vocabulary development because he would be using his recall skills to draw a
picture of the vocabulary word, and he would be able to see the drawings often.
