Introduction

Three main climatic regions or zones could be identified in the plant earth namely, Tropical belt that
is in between tropic of Cancer and Capricorn, and two temperate belts in could be seen either side of
this tropical belt Figure 1 and 2.

Figure 1: Global Zones

Figure 2: Global zones

Tropical belt could be identified as the main ecosystem which directly involved in moisture
evaporation and creating convection flows. Natural forest cover in this region plays a vital role in
developing rains and absorbing those rains back to the earth without quickly washing down to the sea
while creating water falls, river systems, groundwater aquifers etc. Ecosystem services in these areas
determine the health of the global ecosystems or the working lungs of the planet earth.

Natural forest cover in this region is clearing for timber and commercial agricultural purposes at an
alarming rate. Day by day land resources are also limiting due to human settlements and other
commercial and economic needs. Human settlements are planned with new landscape architectural
approaches where natural biodiversity is gradually replacing invasive plants but not with traditional
native plants altering the biodiversity and ecosystem services in this region. Most of the plants
selected considering only the beauty of the foliage. Hence, even at residential level, drastic reduction
of biodiversity could be observed.

With the increment of the population and advancing economic and commercial activities,
governments and private production entities tend to manage large mono cropped fields. Therefore, a
drastic reduction of variability in food items like edible berries, fruits and other plants having medicinal
values could be observed in this region. This ecosystem change directly affect the food web of the
local and global ecosystems and create devastating impact over pollination, reducing the global
primary production. Resurgence of new pests, excess use of agro chemicals, water scarcity, pollution
of ground and surface water sources could be observed globally. Similar approach could be observed
in other to temperate climatic regions.

Present paper discusses the possibilities of coordinating global climatic regions to face the emerging
economies with the onset of the fourth industrial revolution.

Objectives

General objective

To increase the local biodiversity with the native edible flora at micro level as well as macro level farm
lands and develop appropriate technologies and production processes

Specific Objectives

1. To coordinate different global climatic regions to organize global food production

2. To change the food habits and gradual removal of dependency on mono cropped fields and
processed foods developed form raw materials produced from mono cropped fields
3. Coordinate global research and development organizations and multinational production
companies to achieve the main objective
4. Develop a new popular scientific culture among the global youth to consume raw food items
and fresh fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants.

Method proposed to overcome the problems confronted and face the emerging fourth industrial
revolution

1. Increase the diversity of food crops grown at micro level (home garden level) land parcels to
increase the local native edible biodiversity.
2. Reduce the dependency on monocrops and value added products coming from mono cropped
raw materials.
3. Improve the technology adopted to process diverse raw materials coming from diverse local
ecosystems.
4. Reorient Food and Agriculture Organization to have three branches to represent and
coordinate the selection and cultivation of food crops relevant to global climatic regions
5. Plan micro level local supply chains and coordinate global supply chains with the emerging
fourth industrial revolution with the help of multinational companies and governments
6. Build up cross links among different climatic regions to trade the production coming form local
farm units producing highly diverse processed and raw food items
7. Develop social groups among global youth to promote consumption of diverse raw and fresh
fruits, vegetables and medicinal products.

Expected outcome

1. Increase the edible biodiversity at rural, semi urban and urban human settlements
2. Increase the consumption of raw and fresh fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants
3. Improvements in health of global youth
4. Reestablishment of lost biodiversity at local national level as well as global climatic region level
5. Improve the ecosystem resilience and services globally while consuming the diversity.
