Job Shadow Reflection Entry:
I chose this job shadow because I am interested in engineering and I am very passionate
about the environment. It was on-site at Stahl Sheaffer Engineering for the shadow. I spent time
with every engineer there, but I spend the most time with Jason Reed, the environmental
engineer.
My day started by meeting all the staff members. They were all so kind and happy to see my
interest into their occupation. Then, I spend time with each engineer individually. They showed me
what their job in the business is. They were all very interesting. At noon, I ate lunch with all the
engineers and they answered any questions I still had.
I interviewed Jason about his career. I learned that there is no typical day in this field, it can
be a day in the office or a day spent outdoors. His duties are to survey, make a plan, then
communicate with the rest of his team. Some valuable skills in this field are communication skills,
analyzing, problem solving, public speaking, and good time management.
This job shadow strengthened my interest in environmental engineering. I am going to
continue to pursue this career due to my passion for it and my desire to make a difference in the
world for the better. My next steps are to get involved in as many things as possible involving the
environmental field, such as AP environmental science and PA wildlife clubs.

this field as possible.
This experience strengthened my desire to pursue a career in this field. Everyone seemed to
love their job. They were all happy and passionate. The descriptions they gave of their jobs
sounded enjoyable. I want to continue to participate in as many environmental classes and

Post-Secondary Planning Event Reflection Entry:

I attended the mathematics READY presentation. I chose this event because I am good at math.
I met a mathematician.
I learned that almost all jobs in math are office and paperwork jobs. I learned a variety of
applications for math In the real world. I also learned a lot about healthcare since it was combined
into the presentation.
This experience definitely impacted my post-secondary goals. I am no longer as interested in a
math career as I was at one point. I would have rather realized this now that when it is too late,
though. I don’t want a job that is just doing paper work in an office. My next steps are to continue
to pursue other things that I am more interested in.

Reflection Points:
1. (5pts) Library Session 1: Reflection 1: Learning Styles Activity Summary
2. (5 pts) Library Session 2: Reflection 2: Career Selector Exploration Activity Summary
3. (5pts) Library Session 3: Reflection 3: Education/School Selector Activity Summary
REFLECTION 1: Learning Styles Activity Summary
I am a tactile learner. I learn best from hands on experiences. I can learn material better by
drawing pictures or diagram. Taking short breaks in between work would help me.

REFLECTION 2: Career Selector Exploration Activity Summary

One career that I am interested in is a toxicologist. Some pros are working outside
occasionally and making a difference. Some cons are dealing with angry people and mostly
working inside.
Another interesting career is an Astronaut. Some pros are a good pay and getting to go into
space. Some cons are that it’s physically demanding and there is a chance that I would never go
into space.

REFLECTION 3: Education/School Selector Activity Summary

I would like to major in natural resource conservation. One option is a bachelor's degree
from Colorado State University. Colorado would be a really cool place to live. Also, I feel like a 2
year degree would be too little.
Another option is a graduates degree from Oregon State University. The tuition is reasonable
and the campus looks nice. Also, a graduates degree would look impressive to employers.
