goats) are milking. Estimation of how many goats are milking is not fixed, they keep changing so on
an average 300-400 goats are always milking. They have Indian breed of goat (beetle) as well as
exotic breed. Indian breed produces around 2 litres per day. Overall they produce 250 litres of goat
milk every day.

It is sold in 2 forms: Pasteurised and Raw form. The pasteurised form is sold at
300 rs/ litre, whereas raw milk is sold at 250 rs/ litre. They send their produce to Mumbai based
customers as well as in Thane. Their main customers are Doctors at private clinics, they prescribe it
to their patients as it has medicinal properties. Pharmaceutical companies don’t prefer it because of
its cost.

The demand for goat milk increases after the rainy season, as in this time most of the people are
attacked by many diseases. There 2 key challenges in this goat milk market.

1) People don’t buy it due its smell, even if the bugs are separated from them there is some
amount of smell, which cannot be eradicated as it is its characteristic smell. Otherwise how
people will be able to distinguish between other milk and goat milk
2) People don’t like the taste , as they are used to this cow and buffalo milk.

Name of the manufacturer: A.K. Goat farm, Pune (Shirur)

They have their own goats, for goat milk production. They don’t procure it from other farmers. They
produce around 25-30 litres per day. They have 35 total goats out of which only 20 are milking. The
main customer base of this farm are local people of the village, other than that they sell their milk to
dairy collection centre. They get 30 rs / litre from dairy collection centre and 40-50 rs by selling it to
local people.

They direct take out the milk and sell it to customers, they don’t use pasteurisation and chilling
process. There are more goat milk producers other than him in the village( 1-2 farmers). The main
key challenges faced by him are:

1) He cant send that milk to distant places like Mumbai , due to its perishable nature and no
pasteurisation is involved.
2) He doesn’t get the real price for his produce.

about his customer base and production details, then he said it is starting phase of their business
that is why there is no such fixed customer thing. He just sells to customer on demand. The main key
challenges for him are:
