GENERAL INFORMATION
Human resource management is a management function that helps management that helps
manager recruit, select, train and develops members for an organization. Obviously HRM is
concerned with people dimensions in organizations. The scope of HRM is indeed vast. All
major activities in the working life of workers from the time of his or her entry into an
organization until he or she leaves comes under the control of HRM. Specifically, the
activities included are HR planning, job analysis and design, recruitment and selection,
orientation and placement, training and development, performance appraisal and job
evaluation, Employee and executive remuneration, motivation and communication, welfare,
safety and health, industrial relation and the like.
Features of HRM:
Welfare means faring or doing well. It is a comprehensive term, and refers to the physical,
mental, moral and emotional well-being of an individual. Further, the term welfare is a
relative concept, relative in time and space. It, therefore, varies from time to time, from
region and from country to country.
Labour welfare, also referred to as betterment work for employees, relates to taking care of
the well-being of workers by employers, trade union, and governmental and non-
governmental agencies.
Labour welfare works aims at providing such services facilities and amenities which enable
the workers employed in an organization to perform their work in healthy congenial
surrounding conductive to good health and high morale.
Labour welfare is a comprehensive term including various services, benefits and facilities
offered by the employer. Through such generous fringe benefits the employer makes life
worth living for employees. The welfare amenities are extended in additional to normal
wages and other economic rewards available to employees as per the legal provisions.
Following are the objectives of the voluntary Labour welfare services by employer
1. A good number of labour welfare measures make the industrial employment more
attractive.
2. Different liberal provisions on labour welfare are greatly helpful in reducing the
workers turnover and absenteeism.
3. Labour welfare schemes has got even significance as provision of good housing, good
working conditions, recreational and educational facilities are bound to increase the
mental efficiency and economic productivity of labour.
4. The availability of labour welfare schemes is now no longer controversial issue. It has
become an integral part on industrial organizations in almost all parts of the world.
5. One of the main objects for labour welfare schemes on labour welfare in recent times
by certain employers is to save themselves from heavy duty taxes on surplus. They
rather than paying taxes to the government.
6. Another objective of labour welfare scheme seen by some good companies to enhance
their goodwill and reputation in their circle.
7. Different liberal schemes on labour welfare help in creating an atmosphere of
goodwill between labour and management and also between management and public.
Welfare facilities:
Intra-mural facilities:
Intra mural activities consist of facilities provided within the factories and include
medical facilities ,compensation for accident ,provision of crèches and canteen ,
supply of drinking water ,washing and bathing facilities, provision of safety measures,
activities relating to conditions of employment, and the like,
Extra-Mural facilities:
Extra mural actives covers the services and the facilities provided outside the factory
such as housing accommodation , indoor and outdoor recreational facilities,
amusement and sports, educational facilities for adults and children.
Welfare activities may be divided into 2 categories
Statutory welfare facilities:
These provisions are mandated by the Factories act 1948. The facilities that come
under statutory welfare are
Washing facilities
First-aid facilities
Medical facilities
Restroom facilities
Crèches
Sitting facilities
Approaches to employee welfare refer to the beliefs and attitudes held by agencies which
provide welfare facilities .Some agencies provide welfare facilities impressed by religious
faith, other philanthropic duty and the like. Moreover, the different approaches to labour
welfare reflect the evolution of the concept of welfare. In bygone days, the government of the
land had to compel the owner of the industrial establishment to provide such basic amenities
as canteens, restrooms, drinking water, good working conditions and so forth for their
employees. There was a necessity of the compulsion of these measures as the workers were
more prone to exploitation from their employers. The times have changed and many
progressive management today provide welfare facilities, volunteer Ely and with enlightened
willingness and enthusiasm.

Hypothesis
The researcher wanted to know the impact of welfare facilities and job satisfaction on the
hypothesis testing the regression test, F value is 0.00 which is less than 0.05 hence we are
rejecting the null hypothesis and accepting the alternative hypothesis i.e.
H1: There is significant relationship on employee welfare facilities and job satisfaction
FINDINGS
All the statutory and non statutory measures are provided to employees as per the
standard measures, which improves employees satisfaction and increase productivity
Any organisation success and growth depends on employees company may have rich
resource of capital, material, infrastructure, machines and technologic but if the
quality of man power is not good, the organisation cannot succeed. Labour welfare
plays a vital role in every organisation. The quality and productivity of man power
depends on the welfare measures of the organisation
By conducting the study I have acquired and in-depth knowledge regarding labour
welfare and how it contributes towards organisations success. I would like to conduct
a further deep study on labour welfare if I get an opportunity. This study is very
helpful for my career in HR filed.
SUGGESTIONS
Drinking water facilities, cleanliness and hygiene maintained in the organisation can
be improved
Medical benefits provided for the employees and their families can be improved by
increasing the number of recognised hospitals
Hospitalisation facilities in plant can be improved by increasing various other medical
facilities like having a subsidized pharma outlet in the campus, increasing the
consultation available duration and strengthening the infrastructure of the dispensary.
Majority of the respondents have disagreed with the various aspects of canteen
facilities like hygiene, quality of the food, reduction in the practice of outsourcing the
cooking. Hence the concerned authorities need to concentrate on enhancing the
satisfaction of employees relating to canteen.
Education facilities for their children can be improved by providing education
institution for children.
