Formal and Informal tests:

Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test A brief, easy-to-use individually administered


test of the receptive vocabulary of children
and adults. It is a norm-referenced, wide-
range instrument.
Yopp-Singer Test of Phonemic The Yopp Singer Test of Phoneme Deletion is
Segmentation a list of 22 common words. Students are
given the words and asked to break each word
apart (segmentation).
Fry’s Oral Reading Test Is an oral test, this test quickly determines a
student’s general reading level.
San Diego Quick This test measures the recognition of words
out of context. Generally, proficient readers
read as accurately both in and out of context.
This test consists of 13 graded word lists from
preprimer to eleventh grade. The words
within each list are of about equal difficulty.
El Paso Phonics Survey The El Paso Phonics is an assessment that
requires students to read unfamiliar words;
however, this test uses nonsense words.
GRADE (Group Reading Assessment and The GRADE is a diagnostic reading test that

and adolescents whose silent reading
comprehension scores are significantly below
those of their peers, to document student
progress in remedial programs, and to
investigate reading problems in children and
adolescents.
Gates MacGinitie Gates-MacGinitie Reading Tests
(GMRT) enable instructors to determine
students’ general levels of vocabulary and
reading comprehension.
Stanford Diagnostic Reading Test The purpose of the Stanford Diagnostic
Reading Test, Fourth Edition (SDRT4) is to
diagnose students' strengths and weaknesses
in the major components of the reading
process. The specific components measured
by the SDRT4 are Phonetic Analysis,
Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Scanning.
TOPA (Test of Phonological Awareness) The TOPA measures children’s ability to
isolate individual phonemes in spoken words
& knowledge of relationships between letters
and phonemes:
-Can identify children who are in need of
special or supplemental training and support
to accelerate their growth in phonemic,
phonological awareness and letter-sound
knowledge.

STAR Early Literacy The STAR is a diagnostic computer based


adaptive assessment with the main purpose of
screening and progress monitoring.
DIBELS (Dynamic Indictor of Basic Early DIBELS is an assessment instrument that

Bender Gestalt II The Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test
(abbreviated as Bender-Gestalt test) is a
psychological test used by mental health
practitioners that assesses visual-motor
functioning, developmental disorders, and
neurological impairments in children ages 3
and older and adults.
ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) The ITBS are nationally normed standardized
tests that offer educators a diagnostic look at
how their students are progressing in key
academic areas:
- Vocabulary
- Word Analysis
- Listening
- Reading
- Spelling
CTOPP (Comprehensive Test of The CTOPP is a norm referenced test that

skills in reading, mathematics, and writing, as
well as important oral language abilities and
academic knowledge.
