AUDIO-VISUAL TECHNOLOGIES

Audio visual aids are important in education system. Audio visual aids are those
devices which are used in classrooms to encourage teaching learning process and make it
easier and interesting. Audio -visual aids are the best tool for making teaching effective
and the best dissemination of knowledge. So, there is no doubt that technical devices
have greater impact and dynamic informative system.

The main purposes of teaching through audio-visual aids are:

1. They help to avoid excessive, empty and meaningless verbalization in teaching

English.
2. They provide direct sense experience to students.
3. They help students to form clear and accurate concepts in English.
4. They make teaching and learning effective.
5. They provide variety to teaching.
6. They provide interest and inspiration.
7. They create language atmosphere.
8. They reduce teachers talking.
9. They clarify the subject-matter.
10. They save time and energy.

TYPES OF AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS

audio-visual aids.

5 MAJOR AUDIO-VISUAL TRENDS IN EDUCATION

Virtual Reality

Modern virtual reality equipment comes in many forms ranging from sophisticated to
simple. It can provide a wide range of benefits to the education of students.

Virtual reality provides an entrance to different worlds, wild action, and unbelievable
situations. Its entertainment value has a huge potential.

Students can be placed into “real” situations. This fact provides an important value to
educators. VR promises scientific experiments, analysis of certain situations, and
placement in specific environments.

It’s not unlikely that users will soon be able to be “present” in any area of the world. This
provides a benefit to students of cultural studies, geography, and geology.

Past events will soon be able to be reenacted through virtual reality. Students of history
can watch Alexander the Great conquer the world.

This new audio visual technology will provide students with a real-life experience.
Interest in educational material grow.

On the high end of the VR spectrum is the Oculus Rift, coming in at around $500. This is
a reasonably priced educational tool that provides complete sensory immersion.

Virtual reality devices can also be linked up to phones, and come a lot cheaper than the
Oculus Rift. Students with smartphones can easily purchase and use their own virtual
reality systems.

Augmented Reality

Unlike virtual reality, augmented reality doesn’t offer a complete audio-visual

immersion.

Using augmented realities in schools provides teachers an opportunity to display

information. Virtual reality is a unique way to manipulate information in ways that
benefit the user.

For example, a long textbook passage can be scanned and read out loud to the users. This
allows them to better process the information. It can also be a beneficial alternative to
reading for some students.

Textbooks get packed with visual information as well. Augmented reality devices allow
these packages of information to be understood and re-worked into 3D representations.
Augmented reality devices have the opportunity to tailor all individual students.

Like virtual reality, this technology reworks and presents complex information. This
means that information across disciplines can be presented and understood.

Universities will soon utilize augmented reality to teach architecture, history, fashion, art,
and more.

Imagine the classic idea of a field trip.

Students hop on a bus, struggling to gather around a tour-guide or museum exhibit, and
then take notes on the subject at hand.

It’s hard to learn when you’re surrounded by people. Students are also forced to move
around and take shoddy notes.

The instructor gives a little explanation, and kids focus on the fact that they are not in
class. The focus of the trip should be learning, not walking around.

Augmented reality provides an opportunity for students to examine the exhibit in depth
with the swipe of a finger. Visual text is present to supplement the actual image of the
item being examined. Students can take voice notes while they learn about, say, a wooly
mammoth.

In the past, students went home and feigned to imagine the fur and shape of the
prehistoric animal. Today, they can simply hop online and reexamine the entire exhibit.

Interactive Smartphone Usage

Many smartphone apps provide a medium for entire classrooms of students to interact
and discuss the material. College classrooms are utilizing this technology more and more.
Most students have smartphones, so classes are adapting.

Smartphone applications provide platforms for students to read, take quizzes, and receive
evaluations. This is a cost-effective way to receive and manage grades because teachers
are less affected by the process of grading and paperwork.

Another benefit of using apps in the classroom is that parents can review their children’s
grades from their own phones. Students may soon only need to communicate with their
teachers and professors through their mobile phones.

Testing through smartphones also increases the speed of feedback. One teacher may take
two weeks to grade 40 short tests because of the other tasks they’re expected to perform.
Students now receive grades and feedback instantly.
Once feedback is given, students can then retake their exams and move on to the next
lesson, all in the same day.

Students will receive more information over the course of the school year. Having more
time to learn will allow learners to achieve deeper knowledge.

They are using smartphones in class whether their teachers like it or not. Smartphone
technology will be an entertaining tool for young learners.

Flipped Classrooms

Learning in higher education is progressively moving toward the concept of “flipped

classrooms.” Students do a large portion of learning on the web then attend class to
discuss the material available online.

The benefit of flipped classrooms is two-fold. Students learn information in comfortable

places and receive the information in many ways. Multiple learning environments boost
comprehension for students.

Many pupils have anxiety learning in classroom settings, so the ability to learn in a
comfortable environment is a huge benefit. Plus, online information is often available in
multiple formats.

The more applications of information a student receives, the more likely they are to
comprehend and remember the material. Flipped classrooms provide an excellent
platform to enhance comprehension in this way.

Flipped classrooms are becoming more present. Because of this, information is often
presented in audio-visual format.

Smartphone technology and augmented reality are becoming cheaper for users. This
means that more people will be able to access them.

Using new technologies is going to be essential for flipped classrooms. The quality of
learning will improve and benefit future generations.

Specialized Collections of Online Material

Many higher education courses teach content that is always evolving. Professors have
limited time to stay up-to-date on information, let alone compile it into a lesson plan.
Teachers are utilizing online forms of specialized collections of information to augment
teaching real-time information. Sites like Kahn Academy, Youtube, and TedX are
important sources of cutting-edge information.

These sites offer educational material presented in an audio-visual format. Many apps use
exercises, videos, and tutorials. Sites vary from very specific to general and conceptual.

These platforms provide subject matter across disciplines taught in classroom settings.
Math tutorials, history lessons, science, and philosophy lectures can all be accessed
online.

Specialized collections are a useful tool in the implementation of flipped classrooms.

Besides being useful to academic faculty, students benefit greatly from these sites as
well.

Because they exist solely online, collections are accessible to individuals with all variety
of needs. Obstacles to learning become smaller when supplemented with online learning.

Collections are useful for non-traditional students too. Many people don’t have time or
money to go to college.

College is expensive, and a lot of people don’t need all the information that college
requires. Online collections are a cheap way to get interesting information at a low cost.
