Student Writing Reflection Sheet

Assignment Title: Q2 Mid unit Beowulf values

Student Writing Goal: One of my many writing goals is to try in not repeat myself over and over again. When
looking back at my essays, I seem to be repeating myself about the same topic but in other words when
really I should be adding more evidence or expanding my explanation.

Instructions:
1) Re-read the paper (and teacher feedback).
2) Complete this reflection sheet.
3) Revise the paper accordingly and highlight any changes.
4) Submit the revision and this reflection sheet.

What was the purpose of this writing assignment?

- I personally feel like the purpose of this assignment was to get a vision of what the Anglo-Saxon
values were and how they honored and respected one another. When it came to Beowulf, bravery
stood out to me the most which also showed me how he would put others before himself. This essay
made me think about how the same values we have, they had but the only difference is how we don’t
show it as much as the Anglo-Saxons.

How did you perform in relation to the expectations of the writing rubric?
- In relation to this assignment, I could say that I did well on explaining the values of the Anglo-Saxons
and gave great examples on what each meant. The quotes I found were related well to each value
and I tried to give a good introduction and explanation for each quote.

What aspect of this piece did you do well? (give example/quotes to support claims)
- I could agree that I did well on listing out each important value such as honor, bravery, and loyalty
and was able to give good quotes to go with each. I took my time with this essay and wrote more
than what was needed but overall, I’m proud of my work.

Why have you/haven’t you chosen to revise this writing assignment?

- There were a couple reasons why I chose to revise my writing. One of the changes that I did was
making my writing MLA format and changing it to double space. Another mistake was repeating
myself constantly and wrote more about the story itself then just focusing on the values.

What will you do better in your next writing assignment, and how will I do it?
- For my next assignment I will try to improve on my grammar and try in stay focus on the topic. In
most of my essays I seem to zone out like in this essay and add details that have nothing to do with
what was asked. I will start to reread what I’m writing and not make it seem like I’m repeating
myself.
To what degree of success did you achieve your previously stated goal(s)?
- I believe I did achieve on improving myself with writing essays and researching evidence such as
quotes. Another success I believe I achieved on was being able to transition into the next quote or
the next topic by explaining how the quote relates to the story.
