ORGANIC WASTE CONVERTERS

Waste is nothing but unwanted material created from our day to day activities. It is
generated from our room, house, office etc.

Disposal of waste in the open may have hazardous impacts on the environment. Waste
cannot be left as it is and therefore it is quite obvious that we need to dispose off this waste
in the most sustainable, economical and eco-friendly manner.

Segregation of waste thus becomes one of the most important step in waste management.
Waste is segregated in two different categories:

Wet waste (Biodegradable) constitutes wasted food, vegetable and fruit peels, paper, eggs,
coconut shells, hair, dust, fallen leaves etc.

Dry waste (Non- biodegradable) constitutes plastic, glass, broken toys, MS material etc.

The management and handling procedure of different types of waste is different. This is
because, the toxic compounds that might be present in one type, may be absent in the
other. Mother Nature recycles many types of waste material. However, we are producing
more waste than nature is capable of recycling and thus it results in pollution. In urban
areas, waste including human excreta and waste from polluting industries is disposed
through sewers. This pollutes the environment, underground water and exposes people to
infection and other diseases. Open decomposition of solid waste and sewer water through
existing river systems, takes very long to be treated naturally, thus causing many health
hazards.

Composting is the process in which the organic waste is degraded and converted into
manure by the use of culture media. Composting is done using microorganisms, fungi or
earthworms. For limited quantity of waste, the seven pit method is used and operated.
However, this takes a long time and requires constant monitoring. Hence for huge quantity
of waste generated, organic waste converters (OWCs) are used.

Benefits of organic waste converters

• Large quantity of solid waste is converted to fertilizer in a very short period

• Fertilizers can be sold as compost to farmers, or used for gardening
• Machine requires less space and the efficiency is high
• Manpower and maintenance is very less
• This is one of the latest techniques of managing solid waste.

1. Technical Details:

Model PowerSegregated Organic Waste Capacity

OWC 60 4 HP 20kg per batch / 500kg per day per shift

OWC 130 8 HP 50kg per batch / 1000kg per day per shift

OWC 300 13.5 HP 120kg per batch / 3000kg per day per shift

2. Operating Details:

Large volumes of food waste from pre-cooking, meal leftovers are dumped into community
bins, which are responsible for foul odour & health hazards. Organic Waste Converter
homogenizes organic waste with appropriate additive & bio culture. The output from the
device is a uniform coloured coarse powder which is odourless – thus, good quality organic
manure is ready in two weeks of curing period.
