Syllabus:
Teaching Scheme: 0(L) - 0(T) - 11(P) Credits: 7

Course Objective:

 To provide an opportunity to analyze, understand the project brief, site and the
cultural context of the design problems.

 To introduce the students the design of multi-functional with complex features


incorporating built and unbuilt spaces.

a. Major Project – Projects may be of the following categories


Recreational, Assembly, Educational etc.
Example: Library, Gymnasium, Auditorium

b. Short project- Preparation of working drawings of buildings or selected areas of


buildings.

Course Outcome

At the end of the course, the students shall have acquired knowledge of the process
involved in addressing a design problem.

Exercises
1. Place Making

Objectives

 To create flexible outdoor spaces with shared function.


 To create awareness on challenges and potentials of a site, while the execution of a
project.

2. Short Project- Working Drawing

The students have to prepare Working Drawing of Apartments Designed in Previous


Semester (Architectural Design –III)
Objectives

 To create an understanding about detailed technical drawing of civil constructions as


well as building service which are preparing for the execution of work at site.
 To develop a practical knowledge about building services.

Project Requirements

The students have to prepare three sets of drawing which are


 Plans of Ground Floor , Basement floor (if any) ,Typical floor Plans of all other
floors, Section & Elevation
 Plumbing Drawing &Toilet details
 Electrical Drawing

3. Major Project

Introduction

The students have to design a Primary school. The proposed school will be affiliated to
Central Board of Secondary Education. The provision of infrastructure facilities and
various amenities should be in accordance with the CBSC Affiliation Bye-laws and such
stipulated amenities should cater the needs of 520 students and the respective staffs (PTR-
30:1 as per RTE).
Aim:
The aim of the project is to understand the needs of primary educational institution and
develop design solution which are not only cater the functional needs but also contribute to
the physical and mental development of children through creative spaces.
Objectives
 To evolve design ideas and forms, those should respond to the existing site conditions
(Topography, Vegetation, Local climate etc.) and building character and use.
 To ensure Interrelationship between forms and spaces in order to integrate diverse
academic and extracurricular activities.
 The design consideration and material selection should admit the respective user
groups and their safety requirements.
 To create an efficient built environment that should be able to fulfil the minimum area
requirements of various functions and activities.
 To create spaces with natural surveillance.

Project site

The project site is located at Puthoormukke, having an area of approx. 9.72 cares.

Project Requirements

The students have to design the School by incorporating the following facilities.
Primary school
 Classes from 1 to 4 with four divisions in each
Kinder garden (LKG & UKG)
 Two divisions with an intake of 20 students in each.

b. Toilets & Bathing should be attached with Class rooms

 Institution Facilities
a. Assembly area

c. Amphitheatre ( Seat Capacity :750)
d. Dining Hall with Kitchen ,Pantry & Storage facilities
e. Stationary Store
