The Pros and Cons of Medical Marijuana

Cannabis or what its more known as marijuana has been around earth for many thousands of

years. It has become extremely controversial for its use in the medical field. This herb has been

in practice for many decades and it has plenty of many different purposes as well as using it to

brew a tea or for medical use also. While more patients and doctors have been using marijuana as

part of their treatment, scientists have investigated it more deeply into the marijuana use in the

medical field and has evidence to prove its range of use (Gieringer). As the years continues it has

created a border between the good and the bad and has politics arguing weather this herb should

be legalized or not. Despite the help and the use of marijuana in the medical field, in recent years

marijuana has caught the attention of news, social media, and politics. The debate of marijuana

has become a prominent issue due to its importance that can bring to the world of medicine, but

it can also destroy other people that use this herb for other purposes and abuse of it.

Legalizing marijuana can bring positive results in the medical field such as helping patients

that go through chemotherapy by decreasing the nauseas that the patient go through including the

increase of appetite they get when getting medical marijuana and also reliving chronic pain, it

can also can be safer than other medication and many of the times the marijuana does not to be

smoked so there is no worries about lung cancer (Gale) but scientists against the use of medical

marijuana say that it can bring severe consequences if patients over use marijuana. According to

U.S Department of Health and Human Services abusing marijuana can bring bronchitis,

depression, anxiety, shot-term memory, schizophrenia and many more other side effects that can

conclude the consequences if the patient abuse the use of marijuana (Hanrahan). This has been a

major debate of why the government haven’t legalize marijuana. They believe that more people

without health problems are going to abuse the drug and have more mental problems and that can

cause many other problems such as the increase of crimes and trafficking.

There has been an extreme advancement on the search and investigation of marijuana and

compounds that are being found lately that can benefit more than just the people that have health

problems as well as an option where the patient can take medical marijuana with the effect of not

getting “high” or more known as THC (Angela). But scientist suggest that there has to be more

testing and researches done to determine the amount of dosing a patient can take without

harming no one as well of leaving no side effect on a patient. Even though there has been many

test where marijuana successfully went over the bar, there is still plenty of more researches that

has to be done and determined in order for marijuana to be legalized and therefore marijuana will

remain in question till an answer is found.

Majority of the people that oppose against marijuana are mainly the republicans and senior

citizens, which they have a mix feeling about legalizing marijuana and thinking about the

outcome that will be if its legalized also the impact that will give to the country and with the

adolescents which are the main people that abuse of the marijuana, and how driving under the

influence can also give an impact to the nation greatly. But if it was legalized it will bring a lot of

money and revenue into the country by and also increase employment by offering more job

opportunity and including saving billions of dollars in law enforcement. Many people oppose for

the right reasons and they are right about it. As well as why the government should legalize

marijuana it can be something good for the nation because of the job opportunity and the revenue

that can bring, alongside the economy that can increase for the next few years.

Despite all the controversies surrounding medical marijuana and how it can change a life of a

person and community it can be seen as generational change for the good or for the bad, the way

that marijuana can be used to help or ruin people’s life can affect people surrounding it. Even

though many states have passed laws of marijuana for medical purposes, it will take many more

years to come to totally convince and change how the government and police officer see this

herb that has everyone talking about it. The contribution in the medical field has been helpful for

many patience suffering of any condition the have and researches have been searching and

finding each day more information learning more about the abilities of the marijuana and it’s

compound and uses that can bring to the medical field. Also the benefits to the economy and how

it can help many companies and the government by offering more job opportunities and bringing

in more revenue to the government. In conclusion marijuana can be taken as good thing or as a

bad thing it depends on the viewer point of view and their opinions. No matter how

conservational it is, each side has it reasons to be and many more researches is need to determine

the legalization of medical marijuana and for that reason marijuana will remain in question till an

answer is found.
