Ax + By = C
A, B, and C are COEFFICIENTS
3 FORMS OF LINEAR EQUATIONS:
a. General Form: Ax + By + C = 0
b. Standard Form: Ax + By = C
c. Slope Intercept Form: y = mx + b

Transposing:
y=x when you transpose, a positive number will turn into a negative number
y-x=0 and a negative one will be positive.

Eliminating Fractions:
y = 1/2x + 3
Multiply both sides by the denominator.
2 [ y = 1/2x + 3 ] 2
= 2y = x +3

Solution to Linear Equation:

Rules: ( x , y ) must be a solution to BOTH linear equations.
ex.1: ( 5 , 3 ) ex.2: ( 1 , 2)
x+y=8 x+y=3
2x – y = 7 3x + 2y = 14
E1 (5) + (3) = 8 E1 (1) + (2) = 3
8 =8 3 =3
E2 2(5) – 3 = 7 E2 3(1) + 2(2) = 14
10 – 3 = 7 3 + 4 = 14
7 =7 7 ≠ 14
( 5 , 3 ) is a solution. ( 1 , 2 ) is NOT a solution.
