Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Backstory and Introduction (Voice over: 2 min 20 secs)

Why should you reduce, reuse, and recycle?
(insert curiosity music)
First and foremost, I want to share my story of why I started becoming environmentally
friendly in the first place. When I was younger, I attended three elementary schools in
which the first two schools did not have a recycle system. I was taught that anything that
was damaged or not needed were to be thrown in the trash. I never knew what recycling
was up until I attended my third elementary school as a fourth grader. On the first day of
class, I saw a blue bin with symbol that I had never seen before. I asked my classmate
what it was for and they explained it to me. I was so intrigued that materials could be
reused for another purpose to save the earth. Knowing that I could make a difference
just by doing something so small, I made it a habit to recycle regularly in the classroom
and I even brought recyclables from home!

Now to answer the question to why we should reduce, reuse and recycle, it is because
these habits will save our environment and motivate us to make a difference together in
the workplace.
Did you know that in 2015, the United States generated 262.4 million tons of trash? And
137.7 million tons of trash ended up in landfills?
(insert landfill picture, shocking music)
Paper and paperboard generated the largest percentage! Landfills could have been
reduced tremendously if recyclables were properly recycled! If landfills were overflowed,
it can result in an environmental disaster.

If we reduced the amount of materials we use, we reduce the amount of waste we
create. We should reuse materials when possible and recycle when possible. It is
important to rethink the materials we use and things that we throw away.

If we just made small changes in our behavior, we can make an impact on the Earth.
Employees, lets work together and fight this issue because we are a team who strives
to make a difference. Let’s motivate and challenge each other to go green!

Here are some suggestions for how we can use the 3 R’s in our office.
Instead of printing hard copies of documents, save them to your hard drive or email
them to yourself
(insert hard-drive, email/computer picture)
Print paper on double sided pages and use small fonts when possible to save ink
(insert double sided pages, font size picture)
Pay bills online to save paper
(insert billing online picture)
Use paperclips instead of staples when possible
(insert paperclips vs. staples picture)
Reuse envelopes with metal clasps and reuse file folders by sticking a new label over
the old one

In addition to these suggestions I want to challenge each and every one of you to be
creative and come up with more ways to go green!

Conclusion (Voice over: 15 secs)

By sharing what it means to be environmentally friendly in our workplace, by following
the 3 R’s, our team can make a difference. Working together encourages us to work
and collaborate with our departments by sharing ideas with each other! Now, let’s go
green!
