Message of the Day:


 Rises on the Mississippi and tributary rivers continue due to recent heavy
rains.
 Rain is forecast to fall next week on the heels of the Mississippi River crest
which will likely lead to additional crests, possibly higher.
 The Mississippi will remain in flood through most of May.
 Greatest uncertainty in future crests is from the Quad Cities downstream.
 Significant rainfall is not expected through Sunday morning.
Important Forecast Changes:
• Quad Cities (RCKI2) may hit 22.7 feet, a preliminary record
over the 1993 Great Flood this afternoon/evening.

Observed 24-Hour Rainfall (Ending ~ 9AM 5/2/2019)

 Widespread rainfall amounts between 0.50” to 1.15”” fell


along and south of a line from Fairfield, IA to Sterling Rock
Falls, Il.
 Rainfall totals quickly tapered to a few hundredths of an inch
to the north.

OBSERVED 4-day Rainfall (Ending ~ 9AM 5/2/2019)

 Widespread rain amounts over 2.0” have fallen over the past 4
days over much of southeast Iowa, northwest Illinois, and
northeast Missouri. Some amounts over 4.0” were observed.
 This rain has led to rises on the Mississippi, tributary rivers,
creeks, and streams.

across the Midwest. Similar to the past three days.
 Potential for heavy rain, especially Monday – Wednesday timeframe.
1 to 2 inches of rain is possible with any one event.
 If these amounts occur, expect more rises on area rivers. Higher
crests could occur on the Mississippi River.
