I have been writing essays since being a Freshman in high-school and college has

changed the way I have been writing in a positive way. By the end of this course, I believe that I

have fortified my writing skills and feel more confident in my writing than ever before. My

experience with Composition 1301 with Professor Moore has been an excellent one. In terms of

overall progress in the class, I believe my writing has improved significantly this semester.

Moreover, I learned in this class how to create a review, report, visual analysis, and a reflective

essay. Overall, I was taught materials that will be essential to my success and future in college

as an Alvin Community College student; however, along the way I had obstacles when I was

completing and finishing the essays. In this experience, I had difficulties in citing my sources,

fixing coma splices, and using the right tense in my writing. After a while of being in

Composition 1301 I was able to learn from my mistakes and become a better writer.

One of the challenges I experienced this semester were finding scholarly articles for my

essays and collecting the information. All through-out my high-school years, my professors did

not ask me for academic resources as citations; it was a rigorous process for me having to spend

days searching and writing information. I had to spend time skimming through the lengthy pages

of articles to find pertinent data to be used as evidence. Another challenge this semester was

citing the information in my paper correctly. In my review paper and report, I failed to cite the

information in my essays. Additionally, I also had a few commas splices throughout my essays

that took a few points off my paper. I also used first and second person which was not allowed in

Professor Moore's class on the report and review essays. Ultimately, I overcame these

challenges and was able to complete the semester with a decent grade.

In Professor Moore’s class, I learned to write different types of paper and how to use

strategies that would help my overall success in the writing process when constructing the

papers. One of the strategies learned in her class was the M.E.A.L plan which stands for: main

idea, evidence, analysis, and linking. Additionally, Professor Moore had us use peer reviews,

conferences, and power-points to help us finish the essays. As a student, I am a hands-on learner

and the fact that the professor taught us steps on how to write a paper was beneficial to my

success as a writer. In this class, I have learned valuable resources that can be used in the future

to help me succeed.

Lastly, I believe that this semester did have challenges, but I overcame them by being

persistent. My challenges included citing information incorrectly, coma splices, and finding

pertinent information on the topics. Additionally, I learned vital information that will be

essential to my success as a student at Alvin Community College. I believe this class taught me

how to be a better writer and how to communicate more effectively in my writing.
