The teacher will allow the students a week to finish their video creations. Students’ creations will be shown to
the class and also published on the classroom blog site. The class will get a chance to vote on their two
favorite videos and those videos be published on YouTube. Students will be provided with a rubric that will
list the different needed components and the teacher will use this rubric to provide feedback to the groups.
Importance of technology:
The use of the multimedia authoring tool (iMovie) is essential to this project. Students will need this tool to
create their fossilized videos. Without this tool they will not be able to make a physical video. The project

could be completed without this particular tool, but it would need to be replaced with a similar tool in order
to create the videos. If this tool was not available for students to use, the teacher could instead have students
act out their video in front of the class instead of creating a video. If students had to act out their video, they
would not be able to look back at the performance or publish on the classroom’s blog site.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
During the creation of the video students can run into copyright issues when pulling pictures or snippets of
videos off the internet. To limit this the teacher should give students websites where they can freely use any
pictures, videos, or text from. Discovery Education is a great site that allows the use of videos and pictures,
without the hassle of copyright issues. If students use Discovery Education they may need to create an
account first. Teachers can provide students with their classroom login to use while working on the video in
class, or teachers will have to get permission from parents that allow students to create an account with
Discovery Education.
Reflective Practice:
I think this is nice activity for students to complete. It allows them to get away from pen and paper
assessments. They are also able to work with other students, which may make the process more entertaining.
Since this lesson idea is fit to come after students have learned the standard, the teacher can bring in a local
paleontologist to talk with the class about fossils and even show them what actual fossils look and feel like.
