US Robotics Model 8004 Router setup for Sequoia with Perspective

Overview

This procedure covers the configuration of the US-Robotics Model 8004 router

Equipment Required

 Laptop/PC with network cable


 US-Robotics model 8004 Router

Resetting Router to Defaults

When performing the initial configuration on the model 8004, it is recommended the CSE reset
the router to factory defaults. Some routers may have shipped with incorrect configurations. The
result is the routers MAC address and firewall may be incorrectly configured.

Method 1

 Disconnect system from the customer network


 Select the Login button to log into the router. No password is required
 Select the Toolbox option
 Scroll down and select the Reset to Default button, and select OK when prompted to
Reset All Settings to Default. The router will clear the configuration file, display the
System Status page and log you out

Note: The firmware will not be reset.

Method 2

 This method for clearing the router configuration is use the router’s reset button. To use
this method, disconnect the router power plug, press and hold the router’s reset button
using a paperclip, reconnect power to the router, release rest button after about 10
seconds
Configuring Primary Setup

The router’s WAN side interface can be configured in one of two ways:

 DHCP IP: Router’s WAN side will acquire its IP address from the customers DHCP
server
 Static IP: CSE manually enter IP address supplied by the customer

Note: Skip to next section if configuring Static IP

 Disconnect system from the customer network


 Connect laptop/PC network cable to LAN side of Router.
 Open Internet explorer and input the LAN IP Address.
 Select the Login button to log into the router. No password is required
 Select the Primary Setup option
 Locate the WAN Type line item and verify it says Dynamic IP Address, meaning
DHCP is currently enabled for the WAN side. See the figure above.
 Verify Enabled is checked for the Renew IP Forever option
 Update the Host Name to reflect that of the Sequoia’s
o Default Format is SEQxxxxx (where xxxxx is the s/n of the Sequoia)
o Some sites may supply CSE a specific host name
 Select Save
 Select the Reboot button. The router will reboot, log you out, and return to the System
Status page.

Note: Skip this section if DHCP option above is being used

 Disconnect system from the customer network


 Connect laptop/PC network cable to LAN side of Router.
 Open Internet explorer and input the LAN IP Address.
 Select the Login button to log into the router. No password is required
 Select the Primary Setup option
 Locate the WAN Type line item. It probably says Dynamic IP Address, meaning the
WAN side is currently configured for DHCP
 Select the Change button
 Select the Static IP Address option
 Select Save. You should now see a screen similar to that shown in the figure above.
 Enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway supplied by the customer
 Select Save
 Select the Reboot button. The router should reboot, log you out, and return to the System
Status page. If this page fails to display, see the Troubleshooting section
 Reconnect system to network
