Informative Speech Outline

Title: How Leadership Affects Productivity and Development in the Workplace


Specific Purpose: To inform my audience of leadership styles and their effectiveness in the
workplace.
Thesis Statement: Express the main leadership styles and their effects on productivity through
the modes of identifying multiple styles, analyzing their effects, and distinguishing proper
application of success.

Introduction

Attention Material:

Why are you here today, why are you sitting in that seat? Why are you spending hours studying,
why spending hours commuting, and why hours in that seat each day, each week, each month?

If you can answer this question, this idea of “why,” then your reasons of how and what you’re
doing have meaning.

As a student sitting in a seat, you have a vision of a future, and one skill or concept that is vital to
that vision is leadership. If you can imagine why, and inspire others through strong leadership
then all of this is worth it. Because if you become aware of leadership styles and skills necessary,
then you can improve productivity.

(How it is useful in each individual's future, how it can help the audience become better leaders
and hone their style. Awareness is the initial step to becoming a stronger leader, understanding
others opinions and feelings. Respecting.)

Body

I.What makes an extraordinary leader?


A. Why, how, what; the Golden Circle of thought. Leaders and innovators think from the
inside out, while followers think from the outside it. Draw and discuss this theory. Use the
example of Martin Luther King Jr., and how he inspired so many people to follow his ideas, not
his plan.
B. Qualities that Forbes Magazine consolidated are the basis of a great leader: honesty,
delegation, communication, confidence, commitment, positive attitude, creativity, intuition,
inspiration, and approachability.

TRANSITION: Now that you understand the key qualities and mindset of leadership, it is
important to realize that although leaders share these abilities, they do not all lead with the same
style. Also that leadership in the business world, and managing a team is necessary for success.

II. Identify the different styles


A. Autocratic: The classic approach in which the manager attempts to retain as much power
as possible. Does not consult staff nor allow any input, staff follows orders without any
explanation. This style greatly criticized over the last 30 years, and generation X staff was highly
resistant to this.
B. Bureaucratic: Manages“by the book,” and everything is done according to procedure or
policy. If something is not covered by the book, it is taken to the next level of management.
C. Democratic: Also known as the participative style, it encourages staff to be a part in the
