SECTION 01035

CONTROL OF WORK

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.01 Furnish plant and equipment which will be efficient, appropriate and sufficient
to secure a satisfactory quality of Work and a rate of progress which will
insure the completion of the Work within the time stipulated in the Tender
Form. If, at any time, such plant appears to the Engineer to be inefficient,
inappropriate or insufficient for securing the quality of Work required or for
producing the rate of progress aforesaid, the Engineer may order the
Contractor to increase the plant and/or equipment and the Contractor shall
conform to such order. Failure of the Engineer to give such order shall in no
way relieve the Contractor of his obligations to secure the quality of the Work
and rate of progress required. All plant and equipment components or parts
shall be maintained in proper working order.

1.02 LOCATION OF WORK

The Works shall be located substantially as indicated on the Drawings as


stated in Section 01010 of these Specifications.

1.03 ACCESS AND SECURITY

A. The Contractor shall comply with all requirements in effect regarding control
of access and admission to the premises of the Work Site.

B. The Contractor shall maintain existing boundary fences and provide temporary
fencing, gates and other security arrangements as required to ensure that the
Site is fenced at all times, unless otherwise agreed with the Engineer to the
contrary.

1.04 FAMILIARIZATION WITH SITE OF WORKS

A. the Contractor shall be deemed to have familiarized himself with the site of
the works and to have fully investigated and examined the area of the site. The
Contractor will be deemed to have taken into consideration any effects that the
works which maybe undertaken may have on the work to be carried out under
this Contract. No claims whatsoever where related to, or in anyway connected
with, the works undertaken by others contractor subsequent to the above will
be allowed or considered.

1.05 GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION

A. Geotechnical investigation of the area was carried out. This data is made
available for information and guidance only. The provision of this
information does not absolve the contractor of his responsibilities.

B. Tenderer or the Contractor of his responsibility in making his own
interpretation and judging the completeness of the information given and
conducting any additional or supplementary soil investigation which he may
deem necessary.

C. The Contractor shall be responsible and at his own cost for carrying out such
additional or supplementary geotechnical investigation of the Site, as specified
and as may be considered necessary or as directed or required by the Engineer.

1.06 PRECAUTION AGAINST FIRE

A. The Contractor shall take all reasonable precautions to prevent outbreaks of


fire in the Works, temporary works and in all offices, stores and other places
and areas connected therewith and especially with respect to the safe storage
of petroleum products, paints and all other dangerous or hazardous goods. He
shall comply with all rules and regulations and orders which have been or may
be made by the Government or other statutory authority as well as the safety
requirements of the Heart of Europe Development and shall provide and
maintain in good order and hold available at all times and in all places
connected with the works a sufficiency of efficient fire fighting equipment
together with personnel trained in its use.

1.07 SAMPLES AND TESTS

A. The Contractor shall provide required samples of all materials to be


incorporated in the Works, in the quantities, forms and dimensions stipulated
and as directed by the Engineer.

B. The Contractor shall also provide the required samples for the daily field
control of the Works, as stipulated in the Specifications and as directed by the
Engineer.

C. The Contractor shall furnish all labour, machinery and tools necessary for
obtaining these samples all at his own expense.

D. The Contractor is deemed to have allowed in his rates for all costs associated
with samples, sampling and testing as specified and/or requested by the
Engineer to ascertain the conformity of the Works or any part thereof to the
requirements of the Contract Documents.

1.08 PROTECTION OF PROPERTY AND THE PUBLIC

A. The Contractor shall construct all fences, barricades, and protective facilities
required for protection of the public in accordance with applicable regulations
and shall furnish and install signs, lights, reflectors, warnings and all such
protection facilities as may be appropriate or required. The Contractor shall
keep all access roads, public streets, sidewalks clear of his debris, materials,
constructional plant and equipment and shall repair and make good any
damage to streets, roads, curbs, sidewalks, fences, poles, utilities, services and
the like where caused by his operations. The Contractor shall be responsible to
coordinate with all Directorates and obtain approvals for the necessary way

leaves. The Contractor shall protect persons and property on the Site from
injury by water, wind, fire, accident or other cause, and any interference. The
Contractor shall provide ways and means to control the flow of water from
every source which may cause inconvenience or damage during all stages of
the Works.

1.09 TEMPORARY HOISTS AND CHUTES

A. The Contractor shall furnish and maintain temporary hoists, chutes, cranes,
ladders, ramps, runways, derricks, stairs, railing and similar items as may be
necessary for carrying out the work and shall provide guards, signals,
protective facilities, safety devices, etc., required for safe operation.

1.10 TEMPORARY COVERINGS

A. All items of the Works shall be protected against possible damage and shall be
provided as necessary with temporary coverings or with other suitable means
which will afford adequate protection.

1.11 KEEPING THE SITE CLEAN

A. During the progress of the Work, the Contractor shall keep the Site clear of all
rubbish and debris accumulation.

B. Dust Control: The Contractor shall prevent nuisance due to dust as a result of
excavation, backfilling, stockpiling, hauling, loading or unloading or any other
of his operation.

1.12 TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT BENCH MARKS

A. The Contractor shall set on site proper bench marks, construction stakes, pegs,
and any additional control points or measures required, by which he shall
govern and execute the Works and shall be responsible for their safety and
preservation until no longer required. Permanent benchmarks shall be set on
site as approved for future reference.

1.13 CONTINUOUS WORKING

A. If in the opinion of the Engineer, it is necessary for the safety of the Works or
for any other reason, the Contractor shall carry out any part of the Works
continuously by day and by night when so instructed in writing by the
Engineer.

1.14 ASSISTANCE TO ENGINEER

A. The Contractor shall provide for the Engineer at all times during the
continuance of the Contract adequate and necessary instruments, labour and
assistance in the execution of his and their duties including checking the
setting out as the Engineer may require.

1.15 SITE SURVEYS AND RECORDS

A. The Contractor shall prepare and maintain up-to-date site surveys and
documentary records at all stages during the progress of the Work. Such
surveys and records shall be made available for review as the Engineer may
require.

1.16 COOPERATION WITH OTHER CONTRACTORS

A. The Contractor shall note that other works may be carried out in or adjacent to
the Site of Work concurrently with works carried out under this Contract. The
Contractor shall cooperate and coordinate his operations with all other parties
or contractors executing such works so as to cause no interference therewith or
inconvenience to the Public.

B. The Contractor shall not impede the operations of such other contractors and
shall be responsible for arranging suitable programmes or programme
modifications for the Works as required.

1.17 PROTECTION AND SUPPORT OF EXISTING FACILITIES

A. The Contractor shall protect and support all existing facilities (if any) which
are exposed, or in anyway affected, by excavation, or other operations or site
activities. Adequate precautions shall be taken at all times to ensure that
existing facilities are not adversely affected or in anyway damaged or
endangered.
