Anticipatory Set (Opening Hook):


 Introduce and Explain Assignment (5 minutes):
o Give all students a copy of the assignment
o Historical Creative Writing Assignment
o The assignment is due on Tuesday, the 18th and must be 250-500 words.
o Write at least three paragraphs in the perspective of a person from the Middle
Ages.
o These paragraphs should include how they feel about the Middle Ages as well as
what their daily life is like
o It is suggested that this is written in the form of a journal entry

Body/Methodology:
Assigning the roles (5 minutes): During this portion of the class the teacher should go around and
have the students select their roles at random. Each student should take one role to explore and
research for this assignment.
 Every student is given a fictional name
 Every student is given a job/position from the middle ages to research
 Students may also find it beneficial to research the meaning behind their character’s
name
Assignment (50 minutes): Students will be required to research life in the Middle Ages and how
things varied for different groups of people. The final assignment needs to be handed in on
Tuesday and must be between 250-500 words. During this time students should be using their
time in class wisely to research life in the Middle Ages. The teacher should circulate to answer
any questions that the students have.
 Take students to E101 to begin research on the assignment.
 Make sure students are staying on task and that all students fully understand what is
expected of them.

Closure:
 Reminders (2 minutes): Remind students that we will be in the lab on Monday as well,
and that the assignment will be due on Tuesday.
o Also remind students that all current outstanding work must be passed in by
Monday at the latest.

Assessment:
 Assignment: When the assignment is passed in it will assess how the students are
understanding the topics.
