ARTICLE REVIEW PAPER
1. How is corruption perceived in this movie? Explain what is going on with Robert's company.
As being the head of his company does he transmit ethical behavior? And how can your
describe his relationship with his daughter? Explain in detail.
The Arbitrage movie is a good example of how corruption works and how the business world. On the
movie, Robert is an example of success on the surface, he is the New York hedge fund magnate, has a
successful family who are proud of him and he is everything what any person could ask for. However, the
reality is other, he has so many secrets hided. A years ago, he made a fraud with his company that now is
trying to hide to get to sell it as soon as possible. To get to sell the company he will do anything he can as he
thinks that money can resolve everything. On other hand, he had a relationship with a girl outside of marriage,
her name is Julie. One night, while he was driving with her, they got into a car accident where Julie died. He
afraid of being arrested, he run away of the crime scene and asks for help to Jimmy, a guy who he helped to
get off the streets years ago, and tells him to not say anything about it. The detective Bryer who took Julie
case has as suspect to Robert. He will do anything to prove that Robert is the guilty, even manipulate some
evidences. While Miller is trying to cover everything that happened that night, her daughter, Brooke,
discovered the fraud and realized she could be arrested if anyone discovered it. She confronts her father about
it, and he has a selfish and predominant attitude. At that point, Brooke realizes that her father is not the man
she thought.

I think as being the head of the company, he is no transmitting an ethical behavior. The fact of he
committed the fraud, hidden to his daughter and even he does not care if she could be implicated, it is not an
ethical behavior. I can describe the relationship with his daughter like false, he made clear to her that she is
not working with him, but she is working for him. Personally, I think this is something disappointing to her
because, being his daughter, she has him like role model.

2. Question # 2: How is infidelity and murder portrayed in the movie? When the stakes are
that high, can these two actions be forgiven if there is something bigger to lose? Do you agree
with what Robert does? What would you do in his wife's position? Explain in detail.

Infidelity and murder are portrayed as bad things. During the movie, when Brooke discovered the fraud,
she knows she must do the right thing, but as she confronts her father, he forces her to do nothing about it
because there is something bigger to lose. She does not feel good about covering the fraud, but her father
explains that those are decisions he must make for the welfare of the company. About the murder, the
detective is determined to prove that Robert is guilty, is so determined that he will do anything to get it, even
manipulate the evidence and not worry about what might happen if the act of corruption is discovered. In my
opinion, I will not forgive these actions, even if there is something bigger to lose, committing an act of
corruption at some point it will be discovered and it will be worst for the family and company.

Personally, what I would do in the wife’s position is to ask for the divorce. I do not agree with the fact of
being in a marriage when you know your husband is cheating on you and pretending that you have a happy
marriage. The right thing to do is ask for the divorce and a distribution of assets.
