CHAPTER 3

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

This chapter contains the technicality of the project; How the

present system works, details of technology to be used in creating,
deploying and how will the project work,

Technicality of the Project

The present system of the school uses manual collecting, recording

and distributing grades to the students. The teachers record and compute
the grades on Microsoft Excel, print a copy and write the final grades of
the students on their class cards, then later pass it to the registrar’s office
for safe keeping and distribution. As for announcements if the grades are
available for distribution, students ask the registrar if not their teachers
for their class cards.

Drawbacks

 Large amount of time in writing grades on class cards for

teachers.
 Class cards and Class records maintainability is difficult.
 Large amount of clerical time is required for the registrar.
 Distribution of class cards is time consuming.

Details of Technology to be Used

In this proposed project the developers used PHP Hypertext

Preprocessor for the server-side back-end programming to develop the
websites server-side functionalities and phpMyAdmin database for storing
data. The developers will also use HTML Hypertext Mark-up Language,
JavaScript, CSS Cascading Style Sheet and other open-source front-end
web framework for designing the website application. The project will be
created on Sublime Text 3 which is an open-source text editor for various

19
programming languages, and XAMPP Cross-Platform (X), Apache (A),
MariaDB (M), PHP (P) and Perl (P) a free and open source cross-platform
web server solution, a tool for the project to run without internet and web
hosting server. The technologies to be used in implementing the project
must be a desktop PC or laptop that has at least dual core processor or
higher computing rate for better performance, four (4) gigabytes of RAM to
handle all the processes executed by the application and the database
better. The system unit must also have the necessary third-party
applications like browsers to test and implement the project. For the
project to be deployed and available to be accessed through the internet a
web host must be purchased. A Web host provide server
space, Web services and file maintenance for Web sites controlled by
individuals or companies that do not have their own Web servers.

How the Project will work

The project is designed to meet the needs of the three major classes
of stakeholder. The Students, faculty and registrar staffs and the
administrators. The students are provided a fast, convenient, and secure
online access to their grades and feedback for each of their Subjects.
Similarly, the faculty and registrar staffs are provided with fast and
convenient way to record and distribute the grades the ability to revise the
grades and the ability to view their students’ grades.

The administrator will have the ability to oversee the process and
actions of other stakeholders, including view and export grades. The
project is also designed to minimize the drawbacks that exist on the
present system. Switching to paperless inquiry and distribution of grades
will save money, time and avoid missing class cards and class records. The
project will help the registrar’s office to work more efficiently.

Benefits of the System

The benefits of the proposed capstone project are listed below:

20
1. It will lessen the cost of resources to be used in recording and
distributing grades.
2. It will provide fast and convenient way of recording and distributing
grades.
3. It is available anytime and anywhere through the internet.
4. It will display announcements, news or article online to reach more
audience.
