EDUC 212 01 Field Experience

I. Subject, Grade Level, Topic of Lesson:


Visual and Performing Arts, Grade 2, Art with Basic Elements
II. Curriculum Standard:
“1.3.2.D.5. Create works or art that are based on observations of the physical world and
that illustrate how art is part of everyday life, using a variety of art mediums and art
media.”
(Visual and Performing Arts Standards, 2014)
III. Learning Objectives and Assessments:

IV. Materials
○ Students will bring in a colorful medium sized object from home that can fit in
their hand
○ Paint bottles (red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple)
○ Paper plates for paint
○ Paint brushes
○ Pencils
○ Paper
○ Cups filled with water
V. Pre-lesson assignments knowledge and/ or skills:
Students will decide on an object from home and be able to identify what colors are on
the object. They can also identify shapes and lines that make up the object.
VI. Lesson Beginning/ Hook:
The students will discuss the elements of the object they brought in with groups of 2 or 3.
This will help the students make a mental note of what elements to include in their
paintings.
VII. Instructional Plan:
1. Welcome the students and ask everyone to place their object on the desk
in front of them.
2. The teacher will separate the students into groups of 2 or 3 and let them
talk about their objects.
3. The teacher will hand out one piece of paper and one pencil to each
student.
4. The teacher will ask the students to look at their object and outline the
shape of their object.
5. The teacher will then ask them to draw lines included within the object.
6. Give two paper plates to each group.

7. Put 3 colors on one plate and the other 3 on the other.


8. Hand out a paintbrush to each student.
9. Give a water filled cup to each group for rinsing their brushes.
10. Ask them to begin painting their objects, making sure to use the correct
colors and try to stay within the lines they drew.
11. As their working, the teacher should walk around the room and answer
any questions and help students who might be struggling.
12. After they are finished, ask them to do a final rinse on their brush.
13. The teacher will throw away the plates with paint on them and collect the
paintbrushes, water cups and pencils.
14. The students will keep their paintings in front of them until the end of
class.

VIII. Lesson Wrap Up:


The teacher will ask the students to take their object they brought in and compare it to
their completed painting. The teacher will ask the students if their painting has similar
colors, lines and shapes. The students will then leave their painting at their desk and walk
around to see others work. The teacher will ask them to think about how their peers used
their own observations from the physical world to make a similar piece of art of their
paper.
IX. Cultimilating or Follow Up Activity:
The next day, the teacher will ask the students to name the different colors and shapes
they used in their paintings. Writing the names on the board will help to remind the
students of what elements they included the previous day. The teacher can also ask them
to identify something in the room with the same color as they named and also ask them to
draw the shape on the board.
