Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title:
Organisms
Objectives:
Students will be able to apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.
Students will also be able to identify different organisms and draw them as well

State Standards:

K.L.2.A.1 Obtain information to answer questions about different organisms found in the
environment (such as plants, animals, or fungi).

K.L.2A.2Conduct structured investigations to determine what plants need to live and grow
(including water and light).

K.L.2A.3 Develop and use models to exemplify how animals use their body parts to (1) obtain
food and other resources, (2) protect themselves, and (3) move from place to place.

K.L.2A .4nalyze and interpret data to describe how humans use their senses to learn about the
world around them.

Context:
My lesson will incorporate critical thinking because students will have to think of key
words/phrases that would be best to search for their topic using a search engine. This lesson
targets their technology skills because they have to know how to utilize the computer and typing
skills. This lessons topic will be on organisms and their environment and how their environments
needs to be met.
Data: Students will be grouped by reviewing data on past digital learning plans. These programs
will be based on data from final reports after the earth science organism unit and the technology
unit compared based on their understandings. Students will be grouped into 4’s or 5’s depending
on student numbers.
Materials:
Smart Board, “The Zoo” book, iPad, worksheets and writing utensils.
Procedures:
Introduction (20 minutes):
I will start the lesson by asking my students what their favorite organism or plant and if they
have ever seen that certain plant in person before. If they reply yes, I will ask them certain details
about that plant such as their color, size and more. We will then review what we did in the
previous lessons about animals and review by reading the “Organisms Organized” book. I will
be having the students sitting on the carpet while I read the book and they view the pictures. I
will then use my smartboard to go over the organisms by playing a matching game and letting
the students come up and name the different parts of the organisms.

Teacher Directed (15 minutes):

In this portion of the lesson we will start by talking about what we already had discussed about
our organisms. I will ask the students to draw a picture of a collection of plants in the garden and
take this time to have the children learn to identify each plant and some characteristics about it.
My class will then watch this youtube video about plants where the main character and his fun
dog check tons of different plants and teach the viewer about them.

Collaborative (15 minutes):

In the different pairs of students in groups they will then create a plant and identify the basic
parts of it on their ipads using kid mode on the app Drawing Desk. They will do this after
watching the video https://youtu.be/aj_gSVb_EMY titles plants for kids where the fun looking
guy and his puppet explain all the facts. The kids will watch the videos in pairs using their iPad.
They will then finish the video and start drawing their chosen plant and identifying its parts.

Independent Digital (10 minutes):

During this portion of the lesson the students will completed a matching game which is on the
ipads where they can draw with their finger tip a line matching the names of the parts of the
plants to an actual picture of the plant. This will be within the app google and using the kids
drawing tool to match.
Closure (--minutes):
At the end of this lesson all the kids will play a Kahoot game that has all the facts of what we
learned today within the game. They will be paired in random groups thanks to the app and they
will be using this on their ipads. The top 2 students with the highest scores will get to choose
something from the prize box. After this is complete I will have students at random times to
come up to the front where the smart board is and have them point to a part of a plant and
identify with my fun pointer stick. They will then pick a partner once back at their desks and
have a quite discussion on what they learned in this lesson.

Rationale:
(Multimedia 1= App or website): Why this piece of multimedia? How does it support
student learning and your standards and objectives? How do you know it is of high-
quality? Refer to the 8 bullet points in the Evaluating Multimedia PowerPoint to support
your rationale. How does this multimedia choice differentiate instruction for all learners
(consider differentiation and assistive technologies)?
